This logo is original and totally my own work. Please do not delete it from commons. It has been the NWMAC club logo for over ten years and as such it is in no way copyright infringement. If I have uploaded or marked the logo incorrectly which caused this deletion then please accept my apologies in advance.

Notice of namespace-rename "Image" -> "File" edit

Dear user, the MediaWiki developers recently announced that the "Image:" namespace is going to be renamed to "File:". "Image:" will remain an alias. The canonical namespace name wgCanonicalNamespace will change from "Image" to "File".

I noticed that you use wgCanonicalNamespace in either your monobook.js page or a JavaScript file in your userspace (check this list).

Please check and replace all occurrences of

wgCanonicalNamespace == "Image"

with

wgNamespaceNumber == 6

to ensure that your scripts keep working. Thanks! --Dschwen (talk) 18:41, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Questions regarding use of Flickr picture edit

Hello. I have some questions regarding possible use of certain Flickr picture in Wikipedia Commons. It is a beautiful mosaic from late 7th century showing Eastern Roman Emperor Constantine IV (with his brothers Heraclius and Tiberius) granting Bishop of Ravenna with "privilegia" (privilege) of tax immunity.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sacred_destinations/2930854330/

I would like to use it in Wikipedia's article of Constantine IV - [2] A picture of the mosaic is already in the commons, but it is in very small resolution and the colouring is not quite right. Therefore, I would be delighted if I could use this picture from Flickr - but can I? I ask you because this is the first time I am dealing with a picture form Flickr. Yes, I read the guide about using Flickr pictures, but I want to be sure.

Your quick reply is appreciated.

Image protections edit

Hello Odder,

I noticed on my watchlist that you protected some high risk images. Thank you very much for that, but would you consider to lower the protection to autoconfirmed? New accounts and IPs wouldn't be able to edit such images anyway, and this would still allow established users to edit those pages (recategorizing, adding description translations, tweaking colours, etc). Deleting edit

That you don't understand something is definitely not a valid reason for deleting anything. Those file were deleted as (scaled down) duplicates of other files. When deleting duplicates redirects should be made so that links to those files are not broken. In some cases when the deleted files have very bad names redirects are not needed, but that is when the names are misleading, completely wrong, or totally nonsense (some examples are wrong species name or files named "img 123.jpg"). Another case when redirects may not be needed is new duplicates that are deleted soon after uploading, before there is time for reusers to link to them.

Pozdrawiam Poznaniak (talk) 14:48, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

File:Flag of the Republic of China.svg edit

Hi, I check the protection log of File:Flag of the Republic of China.svg, and know that you are the admin that put this file under full protection.

  1. I presume you have noticed my request on that file for a lighter blue shade since Nov 2008, and the recent presenting of many different kinds of evidence, all point to the fact that admin Zscout370 has made a wrong judgment when he used #082567 instead of #0000AA, due to the suggestion by IP user:128.208.37.203 , who has contributed to none other page.
  2. Admin Zscout370 did agree that There are no official shades, I checked already. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 02:52, 7 November 2008 (UTC), this is the reason why there are so many different blue shades, even on Republic of China official websites.
  3. Because of the reason There are no official shades, I suggest using en:File:Zhongshan12.jpg as the standard, and model the blue shades accordingly. In modern time, during state funeral, the VIP's coffin would be covered by the national flag. Sun Yat-sen was one of the prominent creators of both Kuomintang and Republic of China, so that Blue Sky White Sun flag on his mausoleum ceiling is the original Republic of China national flag, which has the original, and the official Blue shades. In this case, wikicommons can stand up to any kind of question regarding the Blue shades, and settle this question once and for all. Because no Chinese can argue against the fact, the fact being that Sun Yat-sen was both the creator of Republic of China, and it's national flag, together with another Chinese revolutionary Luk How Tung(陸皓东)
  4. I know that this flag is being used by thousands of wiki pages, so it is paramount to pick the right Blue shades, and my opinion is, the right Blue shades is the original Blue shades, shown on the ceiling of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. Arilang talk 05:15, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Condemnation on Changing the Shade of the Flag before Any Agreement edit

Any change should not be done since the discussion is still going on.--Contributions/72.45.35.93 23:35, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the shade of blue of File:Flag of the Republic of China.svg edit

Hi! May I ask why have you changed the shade of blue on all files which are derivations of the "White Sun on Blue Skies" symbol as the discussions seem to be ongoing and a concensus for change has not yet been reached? The emblem of the Nationalist Party of China (the KMT) which was taken from the advertisement banner above the navigation bar on the KMT website is rendered incorrectly. If you would compare the current emblem with that of the older, you would see that the 12 isosceles triangles symbolic of the sun's rays as rendered incorrectly, according to their flag and emblem law, it should simply be a circle of blue placed between the rays and disk (i.e., the older emblem was correct). The KMT emblem that was chosen to be the basis for the current Commons file was taken from the advertisement banner of the website, this is inadvisable as these logos are often subjected to heavy graphical enhancements to serve as a better decoration, accuracy is often sacrificed. Moreover, on the same website there is a page specifically dedicated to the flag and emblem of the KMT here, and as you would scroll down to find, there is a flag with a different (and darker) shade of blue here. If it is convenient for you, could you please rollback the changes to the sapphire blue before the this set of discussions? Afterwards, should a concensus be reached for changes in the file, the systematic changes called for could then be made. Thanks in advance! --Shibo77 02:50, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

@user Shibo77, may I ask you why is it that you keep on making immature comments?

Quote:The KMT emblem that was chosen to be the basis for the current Commons file was taken from the advertisement banner of the website, this is inadvisable as these logos are often subjected to heavy graphical enhancements to serve as a better decoration, accuracy is often sacrificed. User Shibo77, who do you think you are? Sun Yat-sen? Or Chiang Kai-shek? Or Ma Yin-jeou? to serve as a better decoration, accuracy is often sacrificed. How do you know what is accurate, and what is inaccurete? Are you saying logos on KMT official web site is inaccurate? Shouldn't you be talking to KMT web-master first, tell them to fix whatever inaccurate there is, then come back here and talk, please. Arilang talk 05:35, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think there's some misunderstanding here. The KMT emblem is not the same as the ROC emblem or the flag. The KMT may choose to change the color of their emblem to light blue (and I believe they did) but it doesn't mean that the flag of the ROC and its emblem change too. Even though, historically, the flag got its blue star from the KMT emblem, today they are two different things. So I hope you can revert back all the pictures (except for the KMT emblem, which now has the right color). Thanks, WikiLaurent (talk) 19:14, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

edit

The KMT emblem on Wikimedia is fine and closely matches the version on the KMT website. User:Shibo77 says it comes from an advertisment banner but that's not true - that emblem is everywhere on both the English and Traditional Chinese website and the color and shapes are always the same. The color should be light blue and the triangles should have straight sides (as opposed to the curved ones in the ROC emblem), so the current version on Wikimedia is the right one. WikiLaurent (talk) 19:26, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Laurent that ROC emblem and KMT emblem can be modified differently, although KMT emblem in everywhere except in its official website is in darker blue and curved triangles. But the first thing Odder needs to do is to convert the color back to the December version until all disputes are settled.--216.189.167.118 15:24, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

user WikiLaurent, quote:We've been spreading disinformation for five days now Unquoted is incorrect, to say the least. If you care to look at the file history of Blue Sky White Sun flag, before Nov 2008 the dark sapphire color #082567 had never been used before, have you ever asked this question: Why do we need to use dark sapphire color #082567 at all?

And according to e-mail from the Minister of interior, 憲法規定為紅地左上角青天白日, please tell me, how can anyone associate dark sapphire color #082567 with 青天白日? Arilang talk 02:51, 20 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't think there's a definitive color for the flag and emblem since the government doesn't provide any specific guideline. My personal preference would go for a pure dark blue as suggested by the email from the Minister of Interior. i.e. #0000XX (XX being between maybe 77 and DD?). Since it appears to be mostly a matter of preferences, maybe we should organize a vote so as to find out which color most people think is "right"? WikiLaurent (talk) 09:56, 20 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
