Regarding File:United Nations Members.svg
editHi! This file includes what the United Nations Organisation considers to be dependent territories of its member states, as it is described on the File page File:United Nations Members.svg#Summary, and as it is used on the various Wikipedia projects which could be checked with the "check usage" tab at the top of the file page. An example would be en:United Nations member states. This issue has been discussed at length before, and the result was that both an "actual de facto" image and a "UN-recognised de jure" map were created. --Shibo77 19:36, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, as far as I understand many UN members do not agree that Taiwan depend on China. The US and Japan among others explicitely said that they consider Taiwan status to be "undetermined", and as such it should be excluded from the map. I can't find where this issue was discussed before. Please could you send me a link to the discussion? Thanks, WikiLaurent (talk) 16:52, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi! The file: File:United Nations Members.svg depicts the view of the United Nationas Organisation as a whole, not that of its constituent members. Russia and Nicaragua for example, recognise Abkhazia and South Ossetia to be independent. As is the case with many nations recognising the independence of Kosovo. Within the United Nations Organisation however, throught the passage of resolutions, Abkhazia and South Ossetia are currently considered by the UN Organisation as part of Georgia, and Kosovo to be of Serbia under the jurisdiction of en:UNMIK. Morocco, a member of the United Nations Organisation considers Western Sahar to be part of its Southern Provinces, and most probably voted against or abstained from any resolution that would have stated otherwise, nevertheless, the UN Organisation as a whole considers it to with a neutral stance, in that it is neither independent nor dependent on Morocco. In reality however, Morocco administers a majority of its territory. According to the UNO, Taiwan is part of China, and the only China is the People's Republic of China, which is simply "China" in the UNO, and the Republic of China is "Taiwan, Province of China". The decisions and considerations of the UN Organisation is the result of a "democratic compromise", obviously many of its members will have different positions and foreign policy than that of the UN Organisation, while in no way precluding them participating as full members of the UN Organisation. As for the previous discussions, they are found on image talk pages and article talk pages on various Wikipedias. (1234for a while, there were two maps, one for actual territory of members, another for UN considerations56 ect.) PS. Just saw the description you added to the image page, I would like to add that not only do Japan and the US have an ambiguous stance towards Taiwan's sovereignty in relation to the People's Republic of China, there are also 22 UNO full members and 1 observer that recognise fully the Republic of China instead of the People's Republic of China. Just as with Kosovo, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia, there may be quite an amount of UN members that independently recognise their sovereignty, but the Organisation as a whole work under different standards. --Shibo77 04:55, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
From my contacts inside of Taiwan, this connected sun design is wrong. I am going to ask for a construction sheet. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 02:56, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Got one The user is right, the sun rays are not connected. They are supposed to be like the ROC flag and emblem, but only larger. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 03:15, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, sorry but this is the construction sheet of the ROC emblem, not of the KMT emblem. Those are two different things. On top of that, we have an official KMT source from 2009 which shows a slightly different logo, so I'd like to understand why you prefer to it some old document from 1928? In my opinion, we should use one the versions based on the latest sources - so either this one (based on the high-res emblem available for download on the KMT website) or that one (based on the logo displayed everywhere on their website). Anything else would be original research (or personal preferences) in my opinion. WikiLaurent (talk) 16:31, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- The problem is that, other than the size of the sun, the KMT emblem and the ROC emblem look the same. Also, the canton of the ROC flag is the same as the party flag of the KMT. Also from talking to my contacts in Taiwan, the drawing that I first did off of that website, it was wrong. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 17:38, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Here is an official drawing of the KMT flag, showing the sun without the connected rays. If there is one thing I must admit, the KMT website is pretty confusing. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 17:42, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

editGreetings Laurent! I am sorry I was so defensive about the photo of Keith Richards. I have been lucky enough to know many photographers who I have convinced to drop their copyright and instead use the CC-BY-SA Creative Commons license. Sometimes, I find good photos on Flickr, and I check the photostream and ask them if the photos are their photos first. It has been REALLY hard finding good photos of The Who, The Rolling Stones, and the Beatles, and I was so glad when Dina finally changed her mind and gave me about 7 really good photos of different people. Thanks for being so nice about this. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 03:33, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Source?
editI'm a bit puzzled as to how I'm supposed to track down the person who took a 100 year old photograph.
--K10wnsta (talk) 21:34, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hello, as another user wrote, we need to know from where you got the picture (i.e. from which book, journal, etc.). This is just a normal procedure on Wikimedia as, without that, there is no way to verify if this is indeed Disney on the picture. WikiLaurent (talk) 23:21, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay in getting you this info. I could make up some elaborate excuse about how my little brother got his arm caught in the microwave and my grandmother dropped acid and hijacked a schoolbus full of penguins, but I'll just be honest and tell you, after digging up that old book, I just completely spaced coming here to give you the info (a bit more reasoning behind that to come). Anyhow, here's the summary of the message I sent Polarlys:
- ...here is a book containing the image:
- The Art of Walt Disney, Finch, Christopher ISBN 0-8109-0122-6 Library of Congress Catalogue Card Number: 73-4639
- p.28
- There is absolutely no difference between the image I uploaded and the one in the book, but if you require I scan and (re)upload the one from the book in its place, let me know and I'll see what I can do (the book is very large and unwieldy - hardly scanner friendly).
- Additionally, the book uses a couple of the other images I uploaded (they're used rather frequently when books/magazines detail Walt Disney's early life), specifically of Walt's brother and parents, so if the veracity of those is in question, we can add the book as a source for them as well.
- If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Although I tend to forget to check this account (it's seperate from my en.wikipedia account for some reason), I'll make every effort to check back here in the next day or so. --K10wnsta 18:40, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Err
editQI bot appears to be only removing promotions/declines after the two day period or am I missing something obvious? I didn't look in detail but it seemed ok. (your image has had no comments so is timed out as unasessed) --Herby talk thyme 13:26, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oh ok, I didn't know nominations could time out. Fair enough then, I've undone my revert. Laurent (talk) 13:30, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Signatures
editSee: Commons:Deletion requests/Signatures of Chinese people:
I have already solved the problem for File:Mao Zedong Signature.svg, File:Chiang Kaishek Signature.svg, please Laurent, you can improve the work based on the document I uploaded (perhaps make them vertical as the original look, we can discuss here: File talk:Mao Zedong Signature.svg), but please do not revert them to the revisions copyrighted or with no source. If you insist to revert to your revision, than they would be included in this deletion list.
See: File talk:Mao Zedong Signature.svg:
Mao's typical calligraphy was semi-cursive script and cursive script. That revision is not typical and a bit askew. (Do you read Chinese?)
And also Mao hadn't signed with traditional Chinese since maybe 1950s, he was one of whom decided to choose simplified Chinese as the standard official writing system in PR China.
Most of all, we care about the copyright issue: Commons:Deletion requests/Signatures of Chinese people. So, I have plenty of reasons not to use that one.
- I have reviewed the source (JPG) for this revision, it is not a "document[s] of legislative, administrative and judicial nature", but a epigraph, an inscription. It reads: "No. 1 Automobile Factory foundation memorial. Mao Zedong". --Tomchen1989 (talk) 07:38, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
For this one, besides the copyright issue, this revision looks better than the previous one IMO.
- I have reviewed the source (JPG) for this revision. It is definitely not an official document. Just a signature, using an irregular ink brush, with a printed "The President of the Republic of China", no any other text. And a "© Gallery of history, Inc" watermark is on the photo. I'm even doubting if that was signed by Chiang himself. So why not use File:Ratification of the Peace treaty between R. O. China and Japan.jpg? It is obviously a well-known and influential document with a better looking signature of Chiang on it.--Tomchen1989 (talk) 08:08, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Merci beaucoup pour votre compréhension!
