Vaste purge d'abus Ubisoft edit

I don't know how to update the new version of my a file, I tried to update File:First music notes of the first Tomb Raider videogame.jpg, but it always said to me that the file is already existing. --TudorTulok (talk) 08:48, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I want to keep File:First music notes of the first Tomb Raider.jpg and I want to delete File:First music notes of the first Tomb Raider videogame.jpg, I changed the image ratio of the original file, is that wrong? --TudorTulok (talk) 09:02, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for deleting the file. I repeat one incomplete question of mine: I changed the image ratio of the original file, is that wrong for updating the image. I'm using wikipedia commons for some time, I'm not a new user, I'm not sure how many days. --TudorTulok (talk) 10:37, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Image resolution edit

When uploading images on Commons from Flickr, should the resolution be the biggest available ("Original") or second-biggest available ("Large")? I wasn't sure because I thought Original looked very huge. But as per Commons:First steps/Quality and description#Images it says to upload the highest resolution available. Deadman (talk) 11:48, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Bigger is better because here it's the original image. The original image use the full quality available. And both Commons or Mediawiki have no problem to contain or display big images. Then there is no problems. ~ bayo or talk 13:50, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. Deadman (talk) 13:51, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Copyvio edit

Hi,
Could you have a look at the files uploaded by this user today? They are most probably screenshots uploaded to Flickr with a wrong CC license. I taged some of them with {{Copyvio}} but a few more still remains untagged. It will be faster if an admin would have a look at them and delete directly (If my assessment is true). İyivikiler... ho? ni! 16:08, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Its not very easy to check. A tag, a deletion request, or a ask to Flickr user, is better IMO. ~ bayo or talk 16:12, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I would tag the rest, but they are already deleted :) Thanks anyway... İyivikiler... ho? ni! 16:22, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

File:Logo cop ru.png edit

Please delete this file: File:Logo cop ru.png. It is an copyrighted logo of a new commercial game in development: “S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat”, not a screenshot. OTRS permission is not valid for this file. --NeD80 (talk) 20:53, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

zlib license edit

Hello again. How i can correctly select "zlib license" when uploading screenshots of free zlib software such this: File:Irrlicht screenshot01.png? --NeD80 (talk) 10:33, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I dont think you can. You should select "no license" and add the right thing into the description:
==Licensing==
{{free screenshot|{{Zlib}}}}
It exists too much license to provide everything into the upload screen, IMO. ~ bayo or talk 10:59, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
If you know a little about this software, do you think the logo is copyrighted? Category:Irrlicht Engine. ~ bayo or talk 11:02, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think that logo is free, similar to this logo: File:Odelogo.jpg. I could not find at the official web-cite any statement about copyrighted logo. --NeD80 (talk) 12:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

And I have another problem. I had created in Inkscape that SVG-scheme: File:CryEngine family tree v20.svg. If i view this file in the full-screen mode, it is all-right. But when i view it in a standart mode, all inscriptions are uncorrectly shifted both horizontally and vertically. Similar with this file: File:CryEngine family tree v11.svg Can you help me? --NeD80 (talk) 12:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Category "CryEngine" is not necessary, because all of that three files from category illustrate the similar scheme. Two of them must be deleted. --NeD80 (talk) 12:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thats a know problem; font are not well rendered. I dont know very well why. 1) You can test to use a "generic" font (courier, serif...), something the server know, and not a special font from your os; 2) you also can convert the font into path, but it break the file, no body can rework the text, and the file will be bigger. 3) then, you can play with font size, and font align to create something readable on wiki (but Inkscape with not display the same thing).
For the category, we often delete nothing, but will see. Categories are created and removed with the time, we also can subcategories some games, or add more files (for example, maybe we can move the text of the logo here http://www.cryengine3.com/). Anyway your last layout is very nice.
~ bayo or talk 13:23, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for speaking here without invitation : I checked your SVG file for the fonts. I noticed it uses Arial and Times New Roman, which according to meta:SVG fonts, are not supported. Bitstream Vera Sans is said to be ok. Hoping this was helpful, Jean-Frédéric (talk) 20:08, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
« where is a source of such failure » any format without embedded font have this problem. For example HTML is in this case too (or maybe a simple Word document too). That why W3C provide some common font name every environment should have. Thanks Jean-Frédéric for this usefull meta page.
For "Linkage (mechanical)", i dont think its a good idea. File:3d rotule.jpg or File:Ball-socket joint.png is the same thing, if we dont use "Physics engine" for the first, we should not use this category for the second. Its not "Physics engine" concepts (i mean its not new, it nothing "Physics engine" only), but mechanical concepts. ~ bayo or talk 00:04, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why the license is too much restrictive to Wikimedia Commons??? TheMente (talk) 18:52, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. The Runescape logo dont use a free license, but, an only comment « These images may be used for review purposes. » It restrict the use according to the use context (« review purposes »). Then we can't use this image every where, and we can't edit it. That why i delete it. For example en.wikipedia dont say this logo is free http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Runescape-Logo.png (anyway, it's not an argument, but it's illustrative). ~ bayo or talk 08:38, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Uncategorized and cat-a-lot edit

Hi Bayo, I see you worked on MediaWiki:Gadget-Cat-a-lot.js in the past. Would you be willing to change cat-a-lot to remove {{Uncategorized}} (and variations) when a category is added? This is already implemented in MediaWiki:Gadget-HotCat.js. Multichill (talk) 15:03, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Maybe we should use HotCat functions into cat-a-lot (function for edition and save can be the same imo). cat-a-lot should only be GUI function to select files. But cat-a-lot look too hard to me. ~ bayo or talk 13:19, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: File:MSPR MetaKraken 46.jpg edit

This image of mine does not contain copyrighted images at all. It is actually a screenshot that was from the PS3's HDD, so I don't see how that counts as a copyrighted image. This is actually my image I took from the PS3 last year, so there's no reason to delete my recent uploaded image. I don't think this image was made by Sony. It was entirely made by me. No one else. JMBZ-12 (talk) 22:10, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Unfortunatly, like a photo of a drawing, or a sculpture, the photographer only own some right on the photo. Some one create the drawing or the sculpture. Here it's a derivative work from MotorStorm, and the author is Evolution Studios. We need agreement from the owner to release in a free license your screenshot.
But if you come from English wikipedia, you can upload this screenshot into en.wikipedia.org, with the "license" "fair use" ; but on Wikimedia Commons we can't. ~ bayo or talk 13:26, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Renaming files edit

Hello again. Another question: wikicommons web-engine allows to rename files? If yes, how i can rename files? --NeD80 (talk) 21:00, 30 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. At the moment MediaWiki allow to rename a file, but Wikimedia project dont enable it. Maybe some bug or problem. I hope soon we can (but anyway, maybe with admin restriction).
Renaming a file with hands or with robot is very stupid and hard, and break history... then maybe it is better to wait. ~ bayo or talk 22:52, 30 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Purge Ubisoft, le retour edit

Salut bayo,

File a regular deletion request please. Multichill (talk) 21:17, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Already 2 deletion request for that without any problem, then, it is not need. ~ bayo or talk 21:23, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Better: Don't delete these images at all. We got OTRS permission from Ubisoft, i just read it. Multichill (talk) 21:28, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
We know it. Only allow user screenshots, not Ubisoft media files or any other sources: screenshot from Gamekult also need Gamekult agreement... ~ bayo or talk 21:31, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just to be clear : those are only ubisoft press material. Most of the time I pointed to the official site ; but even for the few others they are not screenshots made by journalists, but press material handed by Ubisoft way before the game was even released. I can't possibly see as it may be considered a screenshot (if you have a look at the files, most of them are cleary hi-res).
A lot of other Ubisoft files here on Commons are screenshots made by journalists (IGN or so). They are not tagged nor listed here. As far as I know, their legal status has not been discussed yet. I may file a proper deletion request in time.
As a reminder : Commons:Deletion requests/File:El Guerrero.jpg, Commons:Deletion requests/Image:PoP2008 Environment Bright.jpg and Commons talk:Licensing/Archive 17#Ubisoft.
Jean-Frédéric (talk) 21:44, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
So, what shall we do then ? Jean-Fred (talk) 21:42, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
A delete everything with "Ubisoft press materials". I dont find File:Far Cry 2 explosion.jpg and the video. ~ bayo or talk 21:48, 5 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. One thing off our todo-list.
File:Far Cry 2 explosion.jpg is located on the official site : select screenshots, scroll down once, it should be the on the bottom left corner (named FC2_MEDIA_SCR_13_EXPOLOSION)
As for the video, I was wondering if it could fall under Ubi agreement : it is not only a succession of screenshots, as there is also the music and sound effects. Jean-Fred (talk) 22:10, 5 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Maybe we should open a deletion request for it. ~ bayo or talk 20:11, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Flag of Jacksonville, Florida.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Commons:Upload/screenshot/bg: "Russian" label link to "Bulgarian" web-page edit

Hello. When I uploading file and use next path: Upload file -> It is a free software screenshot, I go to the page Commons:Upload/screenshot. In the head of this page there is menu which I can select desired language. So, if I select "Russian", I'll see it: Commons:Upload/screenshot/bg. It is definitely not russian. More then that, in the page name we see Commons:Upload/screenshot/bg - which means Bulgarian, not Russian. But here: Commons:Upload/screenshot I see link to bulgarian with label "russian". Fix it, please. --NeD80 (talk) 12:29, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Star Ocean edit

We have the authorization of Ubisoft: User:Avatar/Ubisoft. There is no problem with uploading images of Ubisoft-published games. The original discussion which lead to the creation of Template:Attribution-Ubisoft was here: User talk:Avatar/Ubisoft/OTRS thread, and it was a discussion about "Lock On: Modern Air Combat" in particular, a game developed by Eagle Dynamics and published by Ubisoft. Megata Sanshiro (talk) 10:08, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, here is my reasoning:
  • Lock On: Modern Air Combat was developed by Eagle Dynamics, published by 1C Company in Russia and published by Ubisoft in the UK.
  • Star Ocean: Till the End of Time was developed by tri-Ace, published by Square Enix in Japan and published by Ubisoft in the UK.
  • Template:Attribution-Ubisoft applies to Lock On: Modern Air Combat. Therefore, it applies to Star Ocean: Till the End of Time too.
It's true that Ubisoft doesn't own all versions of these games, but it does own the UK versions (since they gave us the permission to upload screenshots of Lock On, instead of saying "Oh we don't know, please ask 1C Company not us"). We can therefore upload screenshots of these games as long as these screenshots are from the versions published by Ubisoft. Megata Sanshiro (talk) 11:05, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just to let you know : I had the same concerns when I noticed the Star Ocean screenshots, so I asked for some input at Commons talk:Licensing#Ubisoft agreement (well, no answer so far). Jean-Fred (talk) 12:27, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: UFO: AI edit

Hi, it would be helpful to everyone if sources for this game's license are given. This would reduce confusion, preventing any copyright violation tagging. As it is, no link is given to help others verify the license, especially when the game's website states the contents are copyrighted. Jappalang (talk) 02:08, 8 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Référencement des moteurs idTech2-3 edit

Salut.

~ bayo or talk 13:50, 12 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Romainhk (talk) 13:07, 3 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Je trouve ca vraiment bien. ~ bayo or talk 19:14, 3 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bien vu! Romainhk (talk) 08:20, 8 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ubisoft edit

Can you please explain what was the reasons for speedy deletion of files marked with permission from Ubisoft. As you are aware there is ongoing discussion about this permission and clearly no consensus over it. Speedy deletion should be performed over clear cases, and this one is obviously not clear one. At least they should have do through normal DR, but as for me all images are absolutely fine as long as permission template is not deleted. --Justass (talk) 23:09, 25 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I delete many images from an auto transfer from en->commons, because without a fast action, somebody/something will start to delete images on Wikipedia-en.
Anyway agreement or not, "en" can use this images with the "fair use", but if we transfer it on Commons, i think we will delete them all. And it will be harder to move them again into "en". Then, while the DR is not close, i really dont think we should transfer any image from a wiki to Commons. It is less painfull to wait the end of the DR.
You can see my action like a revert of transfer, not like a deletion. ~ bayo or talk 12:44, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand your reasoning, that the source of the image does not have the source. It has the same format as here. The copyright holder uses a pseudonym, and released the image into the public domain. There does not have to be another source. If the author posted it there first, and released it into the public domain, what in the world is wrong with that? Scapler (talk) 19:51, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Mario_tennis_balls.jpg and Nintendo_Yoshi.jpg edit

Hi, you deleted the images i'd imported from flickr. They were both CC-BY or CC-BY-SA. So i don't see a copyright violation, so a deletion was not nessecary. Why were they removed? bye bye --Gkittlaus (talk) 11:01, 16 April 2010 (UTC) EDIT: On File:Supermario_Kungsbacka.jpg you can see Super Mario, but it's not a violation of copyright. So I really don't get the point why my files are a violation. --Gkittlaus (talk) 11:06, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I chime in: the reasoning is explained on {{Flickrvionote}}. Cheers, Jean-Fred (talk) 11:18, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok i understand, but those pictures were only photos of an action-figure and a can of tennisballs. They can be seen in every super-market. Why is a photo of that a violation and a photo of that File:Supermario Kungsbacka.jpg not? --Gkittlaus (talk) 11:39, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
The subject of of your 2 images is the character it self. The character design is copyrighted by the owner, Nintendo. And Nintendo will not agree to allow everything with it. For File:Supermario Kungsbacka.jpg i dont know, you can open a DR ({{Delete}}). ~ bayo or talk 12:57, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
And what about File:Wario.png and so on? I don't think that photos of copyrighted characters are a violation. For example I visit Disney World and make a photo with Mickey. So i would not be allowed to upload that picture just because Mickey Mouse is on it? --Gkittlaus (talk) 13:38, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
This template is already in DR. Check Commons:Deletion requests/Template:PD-US-patent-no notice. Sorry, but we dont care about what people think, are you lawyer? I dont think you can upload image with Disney character, because it contain elements you don't own rights. We already delete thousand of Yoshi, Mario, Kurby, Ryu-Ken, Sonic, Megaman, and so on, every time somebody upload something like that. That's not a personal choice. ~ bayo or talk 15:18, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Copyrighted screenshots was deleted and restored edit

Hi, Bayo! It's been a long time i've suspended my activity in Wikicommons, but there is one problem, that invoked my awaking :) There are three files: File:QSPLogo.png, File:QSP shot1.png, File:QSP shot2.png. They relate to russian-made proprietary software, absolutely unnotable text-based game engine. Few days ago I've nominated all that files on speed deletion, they was deleted, but after that Hzdbyte, the original uploader of those files, uploaded them again with the same names and descriptions. Furthermore, screenshots File:QSP shot1.png and File:QSP shot2.png was made in Vista/Seven interface, which can be seen at the top of screens. Proprietary interface is also forbidden in Wikicommons. By the way, in ruwiki the same user Hzdbyte created article w:ru:QSP, which was nominated to deletion as spam, advert and unnotable. This user is absolutely uncommunicable, hi does not participates in discussions and simply delete "To deletion" templates. So there is no reason to deal with him.

So, what I want from you. Please, delete those 3 files and block those names from new uploading, I know, you can do this :) But there is a big possibility, that Hzdbyte will upload the same screenshots with the new names, so in this case I'll contact you later again.

Thanks. --NeD80 (talk) 12:13, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The rusian article is deleted, then i delete the images again. But sure Commons can contain non notable content, and i dont think Vista interface is a real problem (i dont rememeber the exacte policy). Anyway there is a license problem. Thanks for uploading File:Beneath a Steel Sky - 2.jpg.

Thank you.

Category:File_icons edit

File icons has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Flag of Guarico State.svg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file ([[:File:Flag of Guarico State.svg]]).

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Tremulous - Marauder and B-suit doing battle.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Tremulous - Marauder and B-suit doing battle.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.
