Hello, Omrsf!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

This media was probably deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Morrisson_2nd_sunday_71110.JPG, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (:File:Morrisson_2nd_sunday_71110.JPG).

If you created the content yourself, enter Own as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, GFDL or Cc-zero to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Hi Martin,

I own the images I have upload 100%! Please tell me what I left out in the file upload form in order not not have them DELETED again. Please tell me exactly how to do this.

Thank you

With File:Morrisson 2nd sunday 71110.JPG you said the author (photographer) is "Morrisson" - thats the person who is singing, not the photographer, and the source "personal" which does not allow any verification of the copyright status. You also said that you 'own this file', owning a physical copy of something does not make you the copyright holder. So the question is simple: Who is the correct photographer, where did the photographer publish this image, has it been published under a free license and if not, did the photographer agree to a free license (here the selected license was: Public domain, the copyright holder waives all rights on his work, anyone can reuse the image anywhere, anytime without any copyright related requirements). --Martin H. The actual photogragher is Sam Khedr. The image has been published on his website at www.nitevibe.com under a free license. He sent this image to me to use whenever, wherever and however I wish, without and copyright related requirements, since I am representing Morrisson. I really hopes that covers everything. Getting the image uploaded at all was complicated enough! Speaking of, will the image need to be uploaded aagin or can you just "reactivate" the file? Thanks for any help/advice you can offer.

Note that I moved your postings over here. This will make it easier to read and on my talkpage you will likely not find it anymore already in a few days. You should upload it again with correct information. Go to Commons:Upload and upload it with the correct option: It is from somewhere else and fill out the fields in that upload form:
 • Select the file,
 • enter the source,
 • enter the author name,
 • the date 11 July 2010, 2010-07-11
 • a short description.
 • the "other versions" filed should stay emtpy, there are no other versions on Commons
 • the "Permission" field asks you if the file was published before. Yes, it was, so you have to follow the instrcutions and copy&paste the text into the field.
 • then select a license from the drop down menue in the bottom, the last time you selected the CC0 waiver license (public domain). This license is placed under the wrong headline "own work", thats incorrect, just select it again.
Because the work has been published before you must provide a written permission. See Commons:Permission for a simple overview, the permission goes from the copyright holder - the photographer - to the email named in COM:OTRS, an email template is given in COM:OTRS. --Martin H.
