User:Mach61 The photo you deleted is fine to use. I have the rights to use it. I'm not sure why you think I can't use it.

I have the full rights to use that photo, given me by the subject of the photo. He in turn has full rights from the photographer, as per the terms of paying for the photo in the first place. How do I go about re-installing the photo and what should I put, in the way of text, to indicate copyright?
Thanks. Piano40 (talk) 09:47, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
You must release the photo under a CC-BY-SA license, making it free to use for anyone. I would suggest you use contact the official copyright holder and ask them to use the Commons:Wikimedia VRT release generator. Cheers, Mach61 (talk) 16:22, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. I'll do that. So I'm guessing that means asking the subject of the photo, the saxophonist Jon Lloyd, who owns the copyright, to do that. Won't he need to create a Wiki account to do it?

User:Mach61 I'm very confused now as to what to do. The subject of the photo has full rights over the portrait photo. What do I do next, following your deletion? When I follow the red file link I have no idea what to do next... Piano40 (talk) 12:36, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Piano40 If the copyright holder has licensed the file freely (see COM:LICENSE for more), you may reupload the file, at that title or any other. Mach61 (talk) 03:40, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
