Category:Cordia subcordata

edit

Hi. Instead of nominating files for deletion, you can remove the incorrect category and add a correct category Gbawden (talk) 11:59, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Gbawden,
I have been informed already that the images I wished removed from Category:Cordia subcordata are also in Category:Kim and Forest Starr (or something similar). They have no immediate relevance to someone searching for interesting images of Cordia subcordata. However, I don't think I'm able to reassign them myself. Anyone who can is welcome to. Thanks, Roger McCart Rogermccart (talk) 12:57, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello again, I found Category:Images from Forest & Kim Starr, which is listed as a hidden category under Category:Cordia subcordata. It apparently contains all images by the (revered?) pair of photographers. No action on my deletion requests seems to have been taken by administrators. Would it be possible to hide the images considered irrelevant/not educational/not encyclopaedic entirely, or perhaps relocate them to a subcategory of Cordia subcordata? To my way of thinking, the last might be the preferred option. Rogermccart (talk) 04:10, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
That category is a master category for files from the flickr stream. The only solution to the problem is to move the files out of the category Cordia subcordata Gbawden (talk) 06:36, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Gbawden,
I just checked the Commons page for Cordia subcordata and see that my requests have been complied with by the administrator. There were originally 133 images, now reduced to 60. All duplicates & personal images have been removed. Rogermccart (talk) 06:48, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I removed them using a categorisation tool. You can also do this, either with a tool or by opening each image and then removing it from the category. If you give me a list of the others you think should be removed I can move them Gbawden (talk) 06:50, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your changes: the problem is fixed, as far as I'm concerned. How do I acquire the categorisation tool? Does it need special authority? Rogermccart (talk) 06:59, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Click on preferences top right of your screen, click gadgets and then select Cat-a-lot and HotCat Gbawden (talk) 07:07, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Another thing - if you encounter a duplicate there is no need to nominate it for deletion. Simply tag it as a duplicate with the format {{Duplicate|Name of file to be kept}} Gbawden (talk) 07:14, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks again. Rogermccart (talk) 07:17, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
