Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). inappropriate/wrong deletion requests
editHi Waugh,
please could you be more careful if you are putting up a deletion request. I've skimmed through your DRs and found at least two wrong DRs:
Please wait at lease some weeks after a transfer has been made if you cannot categorize the image yourself. You are disturbing our image uploaders if you want to delete valid in scope pictures.
Please be more precise in your deletetion request comment, too. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 10:07, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
- Files that are in use in main space of other WMF project are automatically in scope of Commons, see COM:SCOPE#File in use in another Wikimedia project. Please don't nominate such files as out of scope. Also note that
An otherwise non-educational file does not acquire educational purpose solely because it is in use on a user page (the "User:" namespace) of another project, but by custom the uploading of small numbers of images (e.g. of yourself) for use on a personal user page of another project is allowed.
- so don't nominate personal pictures that are in use on some user page. Trycatch (talk) 16:20, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
- Also, please, don't nominate for speedy deletion "bad" files such this one -- some files you have nominated are completely OK, some thumbnails have been incorrectly created by this known bug (and numerous other similar MediaWiki bugs). Also note that notification of the uploader is obligatory. Trycatch (talk) 19:56, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
