Same image, different qualities and tones

Hi. I see that you have been uploading new versions of some of the old masters' images. Can I ask that where the colouration is significantly different that you look to upload these files to a new file rather than overwriting existing files, see Commons:Overwriting existing files for the reasons why we do it that way. It is fine at Commons to have variations of the same image, and we are not limited to the one copy, unless they are truly exact duplicates. If you do this, we have the other versions parameter of the {{Information}} to help represent these cases.

If necessary, an administrator can do a global replacement of the old image to a new image via requests to User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands. Do get back to me if you need any further clarification.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:13, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Witkiewicz On the pasture.jpg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Hello. This is a reminder for you that it is important to address the identified issues instead of simply removing legitimate warnings and notices from your talk page. Removing messages does not remove them from the talk page's history. You are encouraged instead to archive past discussions according to our community guidelines. You can have this done automatically for you -- simply place {{subst:User:Jeff G./usertalksetup}} or {{subst:autoarchive resolved section/usertalksetup}} at the top of your user talk page and then old messages will be archived after 1 month (see User:MiszaBot/usertalksetup for more details). If you have received warnings for copyright issues, please familiarize yourself with our policy on licensing. You can also ask for help at the village pump or the help desk if you need assistance.

File:Dąbrowski Paweł Pelizzaro.jpg

File:Dąbrowski Paweł Pelizzaro.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi Vert, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Do not...

...create duplicates of existing images. We are talking about this one File:Anonymous Venus of Urbino.jpg. --High Contrast (talk) 17:28, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Stupidity what you do. Of course it is a dupe - we have this image alread and your down scaled version of poor quality is no enrichment. I will not restore it due to your extremely bad behaviour. --High Contrast (talk) 17:34, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
definitely stupidity, if you would read file description, you would know that it is not the same painting, please restore the file and it's description! Vert (talk) 17:37, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Melanchthon @ Krakow

Hello. Do you have a full view of the Melanchthon portrait by Cranach the younger from Krakow? (You did upload a detail from it...). Greetings Schmelzle (talk) 14:51, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the hint to the full view!! Schmelzle (talk) 08:15, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the full upload. I did use the photo with pic credit on cranach.net within the forthcoming public Cranach work index. Schmelzle (talk) 08:20, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

File:Jordaens Triumph of Frederick of Orange.jpg

So, you are playing this the hard way? You upload a version in a different colour. When I ask you not to overwrite the exif-data you simply upload it again and claim the exif-data violate copyright??? So you hope an inattentive administrator will delete my upload? Why this obnoxious behaviour? Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 09:56, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

It's ridiculous to demand from someone not to overwrite your edits when you just overwrite some other user edits with worse quality and copyrighted image. - Vert (talk) 15:11, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
First of all, you have been here long enough to know that this image is not at all copyrighted. Second, your colour variant isn't like the first upload at all. Third, I asked you to upload your image as a different file with a reason, but your only response was to undo it and with false arguments ask for deletion of my version. And last, the first upload is not authoritative. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 15:41, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
