editDear Cherry, SHORT intros are allowed on WikiCommons. If you think they are too long on a certain page, you may of course shorten them, but not to delete them altoghether: this is vandalism. Furthermore, interwikiss are not only allowed but you are also encouraged to add them whenever they are absent, so that a reader can move from WikiCommons to WikiPedia with a click. So please before deleting useful information, next time ask first. Thank you. --G.dallorto 22:48, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Please feel free to harmonise categories if you notice that they are out-of-line. My point was only that, unlike what you had written in your reason for deletion, intros and interwikies are allowed. But deleting is not a way to harmonise. This said, the usual rules apply. Categorisation in Commons must be consistent with those in Wikipedia (and categories must be in English so, yes, a latin category is weird). There must not be two separate conflicting categories on one topic, and so on. If you want to rearrange the category, to give it a better order, you have the same right to do so than anybody else of us. So please go ahead if you want to organise the matter in a better and more orderly way.
- Last but not least, it is somewhat usual that intros be taken from the corresponding article in Wikipedia. It is a fast way to have them :-) The point is, as you correctly said, that an intro must not become an article. However, the interwikis to the entry in Wikipedia you deleted have quite this purpose: they are there to say: if you want to read more, please go to the entry in Wikipedia.
- Eventually, it is not redundant to have both an article and a category. There is an ongoing debate (or feud) about which one is better, but no definitive answer to this doubt seems possible, so we are all having both of them. Categories are very useful to move from one topic to others in a fast way, but are messy. Galleries are better ordered, but longer to create and to look after, and very often they are late in catching up with new uploads. So each of us chooses case by case what s/he prefers.
- Best wishes. --G.dallorto 15:56, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not the owner of that category name, but I agree on what you did. I was only contesting plain deletion of everything, however fixing mistakes as you did now is not deletion... it is correction. As far as I am concerned, you may ask for deletion of the now empty page whenever you want. The other question you discuss about, I think it is open to debate. In these cases, "in doubt, don't". Wikipedia and Wikicommons are not marching at the same pace. There is time to fix this problem later, when they will have both categories and articles. Have a profitful work and thank you--G.dallorto 22:19, 24 November 2006 (UTC).
Categories
editPlease pay better attention to the categories you add to images. For instance Image:Amy Lee.jpg had many quite bizarre ones-- she is neither a U.S. State nor a rock, to point out two. Hope this helps, -- Infrogmation 17:13, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Didn't knew any of these. I just used Commonsense to finds the categories, blame the tool. The image camed from fr:, which has a banner under each local image proposing to upload it on Commons by nearly just a click. See that here. If the CommonHelper is quite a shit, that not my fault. Not supposed to know everything about what I upload. Sh@ry tales 18:41, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I restored it, you have to provide the source for each of these images. Thanks, Yann 19:15, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Image deletion warning | Image:Amy Lee.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Thanks for uploading File:Early dinosaur comic.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Early dinosaur comic.png]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
