Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Hallo Danigold3, vorerst ein Dankeschön, dass du das neue Wappen von Vechigen hier hochgeladen hast. Als Dateiname hast du File:Vechigen-new coat of arms.png gewählt – Vechigen coat of arms (since 2013) wäre auch möglich gewesen, damit klar wird, wie neu das Wappen ist. Statt aber das alte Wappen neu hochzuladen, hätte ich es vorgezogen, diese bestehende Datei auf ein anderes Lemma zu verschieben → File:Vechigen-old coat of arms.svg oder Vechigen coat of arms (before 2013). Nun ist auf der Datei mit dem alten Wappen auch noch das neue Wappen – das ist der Grund weshalb ich diese zur Löschung vorgeschlagen habe. Eine bestehende Datei sollte nur mit einer anderen überschrieben werden, wenn das neue Bild eine bessere Qualität des bestehenden Bildes hat. Ist die neue Datei aber ein anderes Bild (grafische Neugestaltung), was im Fall des Wappens von Vechigen zutrifft, so sollte immer eine neue Datei (ein anderes Lemma) erstellt werden. Danigold3 Ich habe beim Löschantrag Einspruch erhoben: Viele Wikipedia-Einträge verweisen auf File:Vechigen-coat of arms.svg. Wird das gelöscht, so müsste eine automatische Umleitung auf File:Vechigen-new coat of arms.png eingerichtet werden. Die alte SVG-Datei umzubenennen, hätte ich auch vorgezogen, wusste aber nicht wie, drum habe ich sie neu hochgeladen und "old" in den Namen gesetzt. Auf einigen wenigen Seiten habe ich den Link geändert zu File:Vechigen-new coat of arms.png; das würde ich jetzt zurückändern auf File:Vechigen-coat of arms.svg - aber natürlich nur, wenn das nicht gelöscht wird. Sicher löschen sollte man File:Vechigen-old_coat_of_arms.svg.png - das Ergebnis eines misslungenen Konvertierungsversuchs. Ich überlasse es gern dir, lieber Schofför, für die gewünschte Ordnung zu sorgen. Gruss, Danigold3

Danigold3 PS. 24.12. Den Löschantrag für das zuletzt genannte File:Vechigen-old_coat_of_arms.svg.png habe ich jetzt gestellt. Ich warte noch ab, ob File:Vechigen-coat of arms.svg bleibt. Verschwindet dort der Löschantrag, werde ich die wenigen Verweise auf File:Vechigen-new coat of arms.png wieder auf File:Vechigen-coat of arms.svg ändern.

Hallo Danigold3, habe erst jetzt gesehen, was hier inzwischen alles gelaufen ist. Nun haben wir also bereits vier (4) Dateien mit Wappen von Vechigen. Es wird immer schwieriger hier für Ordnung zu sorgen. Aber ich werde es versuchen. Gruss --Schofför (talk) 18:02, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Danigold3 Die vier Versionen waren alle schon da, als du deinen Löschantrag für File:Vechigen-coat of arms.svg gestellt hast. Das ist gerade die, auf welche fast alle Seiten zugreifen, auf denen das aktuelle Wappen stehen soll. Wenn du den Löschantrag nicht zurückziehen willst, dann sorge bitte irgendwie dafür, dass überall weiterhin das aktuelle erscheint. Einige Seiten verweisen auf File:Vechigen-new coat of arms.png, das geht auch, aber wie gesagt würde ich das wieder auf File:Vechigen-coat of arms.svg ändern, wenn dort das neue Wappen bleibt.
