Hello, Dreamodisha!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Nandankanan zoo and Bhubaneswar edit

Hey Dreamodisha, I've been cataloguing your nice pictures of the Nandankanan zoo, and wanted to ask if you are in Bhubaneswar. Our temple collection for that city was a complete mess, and when I tried to sort it out, I figured that there are dozens of temples missing, and the ones we have are often similar or showing little detail, as in the case of the Lingaraj. Would it be possible for you to make some expeditions to those places and take some (preferably many) pictures of them? Thanks, -- Darwin Ahoy! 16:21, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

--- Dreamodisha Dear Sir, I am a permanent resident of Bhubaneswar. I'll be adding some more pictures to the Wiki from Odisha and Bhubaneswar too. Have a nice day.

Great! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. If possible, please always describe the files the best you can, so that it would be easier to properly categorise them. By the way, if it is possible, have a look at Category:Lakshmi Puja. I understand that it is a festival, but I don't know what are those buildings in the pictures. Are they altars, shrines, or temples? Are they there only during the festival, or all the year? -- Darwin Ahoy! 02:26, 9 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes Sir these pictures are from different Puja Pandals from Bhubaneswar. These are temporary structures behind the idols. After the idol immersion the structures which were setup for the Puja are removed.

One more question please tell Me how can I categorise the pictures. I tried but the tags didn't apply correctly. Another thing the above Nandankanan links are showing a name CategorizationBot. What is It? Its should be showing Dreamodisha instead of CategorizationBot.

Thanks.--- Dreamodisha

The best way to categorise pictures is to activate the HotCat gadget in your preferences, it makes everything very easy. Its also better if you read COM:Categories, which explain how categorisation works.
CategorizationBot is a bot that is used to inform editors when they forget to categorise their pictures on upload. You can ignore it now, since I've already categorised your last uploads. It shows CategorizationBot and not your name because the messages come from the bot. How they are many, it looks like a list, but it's only the bot messages.
To sign your comments you must put ~~~~ in the end of what you write, it places your name with the date automatically.
Now, about Category:Lakshmi Puja. Is the name Lakshmi Puja or Puja Pandals? And those structures, are they located in some particular place in the city, or all over the town? Do those structures have a name?
Thanks, and welcome to Commons. :) -- Darwin Ahoy! 02:43, 9 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Lakshmi Puja is the Festival of Goddess Lakshmi. Puja Pandal is the stage set for the worship of the Goddess. Basically Lakshmi Puja is famous in Dhenkanal District of Our State Odisha. It is celebrated in every city. Goddess Lakshmi is the Goddess of Wealth. She is primarily worshipped for getting Good wealth by everybody. The Puja Pandal is set in every area of the City to celebrate the festival. The structures in Odia we call them Torana or in English You can say them as Gate. Thanks and Regards.
