Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:45, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Ed Terano,
could you please tell us what you really want to have done with this image? It is neither a duplicate nor is badname an appropriate template in this case. --Túrelio (talk) 12:54, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Enough! I've reverted your inappropriate repeat edit and protected the image. Removing legitimate information (the complete description) from an image and replacing it with an totally unfitting template is vandalism. --Túrelio (talk) 10:25, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Can you tell me how I can remove my own file: (File:Troian.jpg)?. This is a duplicate of (Vt_picture.jpg). (Also this file I want to remove have a bed name from my prospective). Also I really don't know what is (unfitting template).., and way this make me a vandal.
- Nice that you finally replied to my questions. There is no File:Vt_picture.jpg. Therefore, File:Troian.jpg can't be "a duplicate of (Vt_picture.jpg)." Of course, I can rename File:Troian.jpg into File:Vt_picture.jpg, if that is what you actually want. --Túrelio (talk) 22:04, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
First, I did not see that you sent me this messages. (still unfamiliar with wikimedia interface). Here you have two links: one where you can find the file, and second link is where I use the file: (://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Vt_picture.jpg) - (://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasile_Troian). It may be my fault that I upload the second file to wikipedia instead wikimedia but I am still not sure if this is the reason of not seeing the image. Thanks Ed.
- Ok, finally we are communicating. The "mysterious" Vt_picture.jpg is indeed only on the english wikipedia and, thereby, without significance for Commons. It can only be used on :en, but nowhere else. Consequently, what I wrote above, is still true. File:Troian.jpg (on Commons) is not a duplicate of Vt_picture.jpg in our sense of that term, though the files are identical. And again, what do you want us (or me) to do now? Renaming File:Troian.jpg into File:Vt_picture.jpg or deleting it from Commons. The latter would mean, that it could be no longer used anywhere except on :en. --Túrelio (talk) 13:40, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
Please delete (File:Troian.jpg) from Commons because, if I need this file in the future here I will upload it again, thinking very well about the name. Thanks again, Ed
- Done. --Túrelio (talk) 14:53, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
