Hello, Fenrix1958!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Internet Archive book upload

edit

Hi. For uploads from Internet Archive, we have a tool that is there to assist and improve the quality of uploads. You can access it at toollabs:ia-upload, note that as it is a tool on the Labs server you need to authorise to add it on your behalf.

The advantages are

  1. It utilises template:book which is a fuller and nice template for enWS, AND it prefills components
  2. It can remove the front Google lead page
  3. It better allows access to the DjVu file format, and converts the upload
  4. It pushes the file direct, so you don't have to download it, then upload it

If you have any issues, then please seek assistance at s:en:Wikisource:Scriptorium/Help  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:08, 27 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
