Stone tortoise in Khabarovsk Museum

edit

Hello! I have seen some nice photos of Khabarovsk that you have uploaded recently, so I figure you either live there or have visited the place. I am looking for a picture of a giant stone tortoise that is supposedly one of the most famous items in the local museum (Хабаровский краеведческий музей). It is said to have been found near Ussuriysk in the 1860s, and moved to Khabarovsk by Vladimir Arsenyev. If you happen to have a photo of this creature in your collection (or if you plan a photo trip to the museum some time in the future - assuming they allow taking pictures there, of course), it would be great to see it uploaded to Wiki Commons. We can then add it to Category:Bixi, where a few other creatures of this kind reside already. Vmenkov (talk) 04:17, 13 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for the photos! This thing looks really ancient. If I ever make it to Khabarovsk (hey, it's just 9,000 km away), I'll make it a point to see the museum and say hello to the old tortoise. Vmenkov (talk) 11:44, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Glucke!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Khabarovsk

Wondering if you remember what this place is called (name of the Pizzeria) http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:9P-158_Khabarovsk-1.jpg? would be a cool restaurant to feature in the Khabarovsk guide I'm writing (http://wikitravel.org/en/Khabarovsk), cheers Sertmann (talk) 14:45, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
