MET & white balance

If you happen to cross the path of Assyrian objects, it would be helpful for fr:Assyrie, which I'm trying to push to a featured article's standards. Unfortunately, except for Dur Sharrukin, there are not many Assyrian objects in the Louvre.

Btw, Bibi Saint-Pol and me are wondering about some kind of project regrouping wikiphotographers willing to go and shoot in museums. This way, it would be easier to ask somebody a picture of a specific object in a specific museum. We could also make out a list of "must-be-shot" objects: it's not easy to know which object is important/notable and which is not when you're not a specialist. We're already operating this way for the Louvre on the French-speaking Wikipedia, on a informal basis.

But enough ranting. About white balance, it's somewhat easy to achieve with a digital camera. You can usually choose from a set of options: auto, tungsten, daylight, cloudy, shade, fluorescent. At least with DSLR, you can fine tune the settings. You just have to play with the settings until it seems correct. When you deal with objects, it's rather useful to carry a white or grey chart: what you've got in museum is often a mix of daylight/tungsten light.

About glass reflections, the best way imo to deal with them is just to stick your lens on the showcase. It also provides stability and lets you shoot at low speeds such as 1/30. However, there are two problems with this method: depth of field and picture angle. About depth of field, when you're so close to the object, it gets critical to stop-down as much as possible (fortunately, the increased stability lets you do this, you also have to play with the ISO dial). About picture angle, it's often necessary to use a wideangle. Jastrow 08:11, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Leisurely pederasty

Hi Haiduc. According to the Oxford dictionary, leisure is “time that is spent doing what you enjoy when you are not working or studying”, I'd say that covers it :-) More seriously, I admit I myself has some doubts about this one. I finally gave in because I would classify a more general category about sex in ancient Greece under the "leisure" cat. Pederasty should also be tagged under an "education" cat (as well as many gymnasium scenes) which needs to be created. I'm trying to create new cats for category:Ancient Greece to classify objects according to their subject. Current classification is more based on media type.

Hi Haiduc. I used a new lens with a very short minimal focus length (a bit less than 8 in. from the focal plane), so I was able to press the front lens on the glass case, thus providing me with a support. Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hello, what is this map about? This is listed on several pages about the age of consent on some wikipedias. Age of consent has nothing to do with gay relationships between teenager boys and adult men in Ancient Greece. I don't think there's a distinction between age of consent for males and females. Most countries in the balkans have their age set at 15-16 and not 18 according to Wikipedia. Texcarson (talk) 01:12, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
