Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

ファイルの改名について edit

はじめまして。Hirorinmasa さんがアップロードされた File:Hietsu Ohashi.jpg について、「不適切な名称であるため」として {{Bad name}} タグを貼っておられましたが、このタグはまったく同一のファイルが違うファイル名で複数存在する場合に、不要なほうを削除するために使用するものです。今回は同一のファイルが重複しているわけではないため、タグは除去されたようですのでお知らせいたします。

なお、単に現在のものよりも適切なファイル名に変更したいということでしたら、{{Rename}} タグを使用して改名を依頼することができます。用法は、{{rename|新しいファイル名.jpg|改名の理由}} です。理由は英語で記述することを推奨しますが、ファイルをアップロードしたユーザ本人の依頼であれば基本的に無条件で改名可能ですので、「Uploader's request」と書いていただければ問題はありません。以上、よろしくお願いします。Yasu (talk) 14:56, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
