Stonehenge edit

Hi RedNovember82, thanks for uploading your images to WLM in the UK. I noticed you added two of Stonehenge. This year (the first the UK has taken part in the competition) the focus in the UK is listed buildings. While Stonehenge is a historic monument (a scheduled monument in fact), but isn't a listed building so I've removed the WLM tags. Next year we might expand the competition to include scheduled monuments. As far as I can tell, the rest of you images qualify (and this one is pretty impressive). Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 11:47, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for this, I forgot to go back and look at the list of buildings that don't yet have images, so just merrily started uploading in my excitement. Will I have to re-add my Stonehenge images next year if you do expand, or request and edit/addition of the WLM tags? Or is it too early to ask these sorts of questions.

Assuming Stonehenge and other scheduled monuments are included next year (yet to be decided as planning won't properly start until this year's competition is over!) you would need to upload your images then. It doesn't matter when the photo is taken, but to qualify it needs to be uploaded between 1st and 30th September during the year of the competition. I got caught out myself yesterday. I was passing by an old building on the way to the library and took pictures assuming it would be a listed building. It was, but only Grade II (Grade II* and I are the ones eligible for the competition). Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 13:29, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

OOPS. I'm not English, but live in the UK. "Listing" is a foreign concept to me. I took part in the WLMZA last year and there was a wide scope as South Africa has less age to it's buildings and monuments, and hardly and were documented. I'll have to go and take more of Stonehenge, or can I request a deletion of the two I have uploaded, as I guess uploading the same two again will cause some conflict on the database?

Listing is a foreign concept to most people. There are about 400,000 listed buildings of all types in England alone, so the organisers decided to concentrate on the two most important groups, Grades I and II*. I think the way to go is taking more pictures of Stonehenge for next year. It's a good excuse to visit, and I must admit I've not actually been myself. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 14:14, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

You're right, Wiltshire is a stunning area to visit. I'll go and see it again! You should get there ASAP, it is quite surreal to stand there and see the stones for real, they are magnificent, no picture can portray the feeling you get from standing alongside the ancients!

Hi, Colleen again. Quick question, I see that alonside some of my images it says they need descriptions. I asked on the Facebook page and was told that it was not 100% necessary, so I didn't put for all of them, but it looks a little silly now, as they say "needs a description". How can I add one? Is it a case of requesting an edit?

Ah I see what happened. If you start uploading from the tables it includes a short description (just the name of the building usually). To add a description, for example the name of the building, you can click 'edit' at the top of the page. It will take you to a new page, and where it says |description= you can add your text. I hope that helps. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 15:24, 20 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Notification about possible deletion edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
