Jedi rowers

edit

File:Tom Murray Michael Brake NZL Jedi rowers.jpg is amusing. However, would you be willing to separately upload the original, un-Jedified version? The English Wikipedia Manual of Style for Images states: Images should not be changed in ways that materially mislead the viewer. An unretouched image is more likely to be used more widely for formal, educational purposes. Cheers, --Animalparty (talk) 20:02, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Animalparty, while I agree that it would be nice to also have the original (but by no means is this essential), the point of this work is to be an artwork. Please note how it is categorised. It’s there to support the prose of an article. How could that possibly confuse readers? Schwede66 18:12, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Schwede66: The point being that it can basically only be used for one rather unremarkable purpose—to illustrate the fact that one or both of the rowers like Star Wars—and not to illustrate the activity or sport of rowing generically, nor to formally depict either individuals in a professional manner. Its context and scope is greatly restricted: it would look silly and out-of-place in articles about races the two have competed in, for instance. Media on Commons can be reused and readapted by a variety of projects, online and offline, not just on Wikipedia. The photographer is of course under no obligation to upload the original, but it would be a great benefit. --Animalparty (talk) 18:27, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Animalparty, I suggest that you check the user's uploads. She's got a great eye, takes brilliant photos, and has so far contributed quite a bit of quality content. Like any other photographer out there, she's under no obligation to contribute anything. But she does contribute and it helps us to illustrate rowing articles. We should show her the greatest respect and our gratitude. I certainly do. Schwede66 06:02, 14 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
