First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Hallo Alraunenstern,
wie mir gerade auffiel, hast Du ein gutes Foto vom Standort der Martin-Gauger-Gedenktafel gemacht, auf dem man nur leider den Text nicht lesen kann. Gab es einen besonderen Grund, dass Du kein zweites Foto gemacht hast? Bevor Du es mir nun zu Recht vorwirfst, ich war schon vor Dir da und habe die Tafel nicht fotografiert. Bei mir lag es damals am störenden Schlagschatten, allerdings habe ich vergessen, es auf meine to-do-Liste zu setzen. Kommst Du dort vielleicht in nächster Zeit mal auf ein Foto vorbei? Wenn nicht, ist's kein Problem, ich komme immer mal wieder nach Barmen, da liegt's fast am Wege.

Hallo Im Fokus, ich hatte noch ein Foto gemacht, auf dem man den Text mit etwas gutem Willen lesen kann, aber mit Schatten und Blitz, es ist also nicht gut geworden. Ich hab es jetzt trotzdem hochgeladen, für den Fall, dass der Text dich interessiert, und hoffe, dass jemand mal ein besseres macht. Ich bin sonst eigentlich nie in Wuppertal. Danke Dir für das Foto, Alraunenstern. Ich hoffe, Du bist mir nicht böse, dass ich es noch ein wenig zurechtgeschnitten habe. Dass sich schon zwei Tage später die Gelegenheit für einen Besuch auf der Gerichtsinsel ergebe, hatte ich vor drei Tagen nicht präsent. Wie Du siehst, habe ich nun auch ein Foto hochgeladen, wobei auf Deinem der Text vor allem im unteren Drittel besser zu lesen ist. Das ist das Fatale an der Anbringung dieser Tafeln mit beschichteter Oberfläche im 45°-Winkel: die Kamera fängt, je steiler sie auf sie ausgerichtet wird und je heller es ist, desto mehr Reflektionen ein, die Du mit bloßem Auge gar nicht wahrnimmst. Leider war es gegen Mittag und deshalb mit meiner bescheidenen Ausrüstung nicht mehr drin. Gruß --Im Fokus (talk) 21:29, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Liebe @Alraunenstern ich hab eine Frage an Dich. Wie ist deine Haltung zur Einordnung der Bilder in die Kategorie der Sammlung Prinzhorn. Beispiel: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Works_in_the_Sammlung_Prinzhorn_by_artist

und die in der Oberkategorie, wo alle Mussen sind, ist das zu sehen: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Works_by_artist_by_museum Dort sollte auch die Sammlung Prinzhorn rein. Ich hab versucht das Frederike Rauch das zu erklären hab es aber irgendwie nicht argumentativ belegen können. Kannst du dich mal mit Ihr in diesem Punkt zusammen tun? Lieber Armin, bei dem Thema werde ich leider passen, weil es so zeitaufwändig ist, sich ordentlich in die Kategorienbäume reinzudenken und sich nicht zu verhaspeln.
