Category:World War 1 Colour photos edit

Hello Catfishmo,

You created Category:World War 1 Colour photos, but many of the images you have been adding there are modern photographs depicting World War I equipment in museums or reproductions. Shouldn't the category be limited to photographs actually taken during World War I? MKFI (talk) 06:19, 26 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

No. What prompted me to start organizing all these photos is that I was looking for color public domain photos that represented WW1. Anyone needing to do a modern presentation on uniforms, equipment, etc would much prefer color photos to bl and white so I am putting every color photo I can find into one file. In hindsight, I should have created a category called World War I colour photos and then created subcategories, but trying to figure all this maze of categories and subcategories is quite a feat! If I could easily go back and change the overall category name to World War I instead of World War 1 I would, but I'm not going back now!

Category:Hand grenades of World War I edit

Hello Catfishmo,

You created Category:Hand grenades of World War I. However there already is Category:World War I grenades for hand grenades of World War I. I have converted your category into a redirect. (I do admit that the name of the older category could have been chosen better.) MKFI (talk) 07:04, 26 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you!

Don't leave behind empty orphan categories edit

Hello Catfishmo,

If you move all images from a category and then empty the category page (such as Category:Wounded of World War I) don't leave the empty category page behind. Nominate it for deletion or make it a category redirect. MKFI (talk) 17:04, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Got it. Thanks! I didn't know how to do that.

Category:Birds and the war (1919) edit

Catfishmo,

Category:Birds and the war (1919) is category for images form a specific book. These images 1, 2 and 3 all belong to that category and should not be removed. You can certainly add more specific categories but don't remove the book category. MKFI (talk) 17:14, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Additionally, magpies and canaries are not pigeons. MKFI (talk) 17:15, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. The group of pics was categorized under WW1 and although they may be from 1919, they really had no relevance to WW1. I just didn't want them categorized under WWI. I didn't even look closely at the birds to see what kind they were--they were just in that file already. I just knew it had nothing to do specifically with WW1.

Thank you for taking care of WW I material edit

Hello Catfishmo, I want to thank you for taking care of WW I material. Sorry for reverting one of your edits in a bit harsh way. I got reverted myself by someone else yesterday which kind of pissed me of. I am going to retain my good manners no matter how I get treated by others. I am sure that we can fix this category issue. Just one thing: If you post comments on discussion pages please "sign" them. It is really easy please check Commons:Signatures. Thank you. --Zaccarias (talk) 22:27, 28 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Got it, thanks. I find this Wiki editing to be really complicated! No hard feelings about the edit. I just tried to put stuff in logical places so people can find what they are looking for without wading through seemingly irrelevant stuff. But I made over a thousand edits so I'm sure there were some mistakes too : ) --Catfishmo (talk) 13:03, 2 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please stop moving images into the WWI Aviation category edit

A lot of these images are already categorized in various subcategories of Aviation in World War I. There is absolutely no reason to have them in the parent category as well. Poliocretes (talk) 17:44, 4 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sorry if I made some mistakes. I added categories to over 900 orphan photos. However, the photo that was reverted [1] was only listed under these two categories: "Photographs in the Ministry of Information First World War Miscellaneous Collection" and "FBA aircraft" neither of which is a subcategory of Aviation relating to World War I.--Catfishmo (talk) 19:47, 4 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for rescuing orphaned images, but I'm referring to something like this. There's no reason whatsoever why a properly categorized image should suddenly find its way to a general category like Aviation in World War I. Poliocretes (talk) 06:04, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you are absolutely right : )--Catfishmo (talk) 13:24, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
