Luokittelusta edit

Hei! Commonsin virallisen käytännön mukaan luokittelu tehdään luokan aiheen, ei sisällön perusteella. (Pages (including category pages) are categorized according to their subject, and not to their contents, because the contents are generally not a permanent feature of the category page ––.)

Esimerkiksi luokka Category:Photographs by Eeva Rista on tarkoitettu kaikille Eeva Ristan ottamille valokuville, ei vain Helsingissä otetuille mustavalkokuville. Tämän vuoksi sitä ei pidä luokitella luokkaan Category:Black and white photographs of Helsinki by photographer, vaikka siellä tällä hetkellä olisikin vain Helsingissä otettuja mustavalkokuvia. Sinne voisi kylläkin luokitella luokan Category:Black and white photographs of Helsinki by Eeva Rista, jos sellainen olisi olemassa.

Category:Helsinki in the 1890s) ei pidä luokitella luokkaan Category:Black and white photographs of Helsinki, koska ne kattavat kaiken kyseisenä vuosikymmenenä Helsingissä tapahtuvan, ei vain mustavalkoisia valokuvia. Terveisin, ––Apalsola tc 22:56, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

––Apalsola tc 23:15, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Coen, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Instead of using 'People wearing boots' please use 'Boots in cosplay' instead. I'vemoved the category onto the Cosplay of Black Widow category insted. --Trade (talk) 20:39, 12 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Right. Thanks for the heads-up! --Coen (talk) 20:41, 12 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Category:Crown_Bridges edit

Crown Bridges has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Flickr2Commons edit

I have just come across a few images you have recently uploaded from Flickr. I would appreciate it if in the future, you used the Flickr2Commons tool. This tool allows images to be moved to Commons from Flickr without having to download the images to your own computer. It also brings in the largest resolution of the image, as well making sure to list the correct license and url, making it easy for the automated Flickr Review system. Also, it is fairly easy to categorize images with this tool. To use it, you just need to go to the url and authorize it (where it says "authorise first").--A1Cafel (talk) 14:36, 28 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Distinguishing clothing types in cosplay edit

The overwhelming majority of the files you placed in Category:Latex clothing in cosplay actually feature other shiny materials: PVC, spandex etc. (the former clothing is much more expensive than the latter ones, and also really high-maintenance, so it's very rare in real-life cosplay). The distinguishing feature of latex/rubber on photos is that it's not sewn like other materials but glued, and therefore instead of stitches it has characteristic smooth lap seams. It is really easy to notice once you have a little practice. The wrinkles different materials make are also quite distinctive, but that's hard to describe in text.

The question is, I'm planning to remove all the extraneous photos from the category, should I move them somewhere else? Maybe, Category:Cosplay clothing? GlossyMannequin (talk) 10:18, 13 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, probably better to just move them to the main category unless someone comes up with something more specific. Thanks for your attention to details, to me they all look pretty much the same, haha. --Coen (talk) 12:40, 13 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have just finished cleaning it up. Out of maybe a hundred photos, or even more, only about two dozen were left, and with some efforts I added about a dozen or two. As of this writing we have 42 images and I'm quite confident that every single one is correct. Most of the extraneous files went into the Category:Catsuits in cosplay, but I tried to do my best to enrich the categorization of the files and not just remove the category but replace it with something more suitable. GlossyMannequin (talk) 16:47, 14 September 2022 (UTC) P.S. Some more work, and 62 files now. GlossyMannequin (talk) 20:12, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Unidentified trains edit

Hello, you classified File:Litzirüti 20220930i744 3501-1566-2317-52801.jpg as Category:Unidentified trains. Can you please explain me what exactly is "unidentified"? Every detail is known, date, time, vehicle numbers. What else is necessary to identify this train?? Gürbetaler (talk) 23:21, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

There was no such category though. The photo was only categorized with "Chur-Arosa railway". Sorry for not taking a look at the description. Quite often every train model (at least when it comes to Europe) has an individual category, it certainly helps others to browse if the uploader has initially categorized it there. --Coen (talk) 06:19, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Category:Disused rail tunnels in Germany edit

Hei, you assigned Category:Disused rail tunnels in Germany to Category:Abandoned places in Germany. Are you sure that a disused tunnel is necessarily an abandoned place? I took pictures of at least two disused rail tunnels that are still in use for pedestrians (Donauwörth, Wasserburg). Or does such usage mean that the tunnels are not really „disused“? In this case I would have to remove them from the „disused“ category. – Renardo la vulpo (talk) 20:20, 7 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

There should be another category for Former rail tunnels in Germany (as there is for French tunnels for example), as they differ from Disused tunnels. Disused tunnels have no use at all (they're often shut with bricks or gates) but Former tunnels do; they even have a subcategory Rail trail tunnels that are basically tunnels turned into well maintained bikeways. The same difference goes for Former rail bridges and Disused rail bridges. --Coen (talk) 20:30, 7 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Button-down shirts edit

Hello, Coen. I noticed this edit where you added Category:Button-down shirts to the file. The shirt shown in the image has buttons, but it is not a button-down shirt. A button-down shirt is a shirt where the points of the collar are secured with buttons, as in this image. I'm changing the ones I see, but please be aware of this when you are categorizing shirts. Thanks! -- Auntof6 (talk) 08:43, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
