Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel irc:wikimedia-commons #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:49, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Questionable visualisations
editHi, while I appreciate the effort that you made for visualizing science and for communicating the concepts that you formed of reality, I am concerned that they create wrong impressions. I am not a chemist, but I do not feel comfortable with your animations. At en:Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chemistry/Archive 16#Gallery of Lewis structures in 3-D someone wrote: Lewis structures are a fiction (albeit a useful one) that only illustrate a very few things (electron sharing/connectivity is about all) correctly. By taking re-extending the Lewis diagrams into 3D, you're emphasizing the parts of the fiction that are false (especially the spacial arrangement). Adding 3D rotations to a system that is solely about 2D connectivity is not useful at best.
Many others agreed, and per en:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gallery of Lewis structures in 3-D the wikipedia page was deleted. But he animations are still here at commons. I would propose to move them to a separate category, with a link to these discussions on enwp.
As a physicist, I am more concerned about your models of nuclear structure. Your chemical visualisation were related to Lewis structures and to well-known ideas about cubic atoms, but I am not aware of anything similar to the your nuclear diagrams. I left a note on en:User talk:Edguy99 about your user subpages there, and I think these images should be delted. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 08:08, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Your user page
editIn my opinion, your user page here does not conform to Commons:Project scope/Pages, galleries and categories#Non-allowable user page/gallery/category content. Your page in its current form has the style of an encyclopedia article, and as such it should not be here, according to Commons:Project scope#Excluded educational content. User pages are generally reserved for personal profiles and information relevant to the user’s contributions to Commons. So please, edit your page so that it conforms to the guidelines. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 19:54, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
I have edited the page to show how I build complex organic molecules that can be used as pictures, but also to reflect what can be done with moving 3-d images if anyone gets a good idea on where they may be of use. I plan to add some polymerization and hydration simulations to see if these can be turned into real pages at some point. I hope this sounds reasonable. Edguy99 (talk) 02:18, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Your quark structures have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them. |
your nonexisting categories
editHello, you added the category:Proton to several files, see Category:Proton - can you check it please? - or create the category. Obviously your knowledge of physics is better than mine... Regards, Cholo Aleman (talk) 20:23, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
After your files were deleted per Commons:Deletion requests/Quark structures of Edguy99, you have re-uploaded them:
- File:Neutronshellv2.PNG is probably the same as File:Neutrondownupdown.PNG;
- File:Neutronshell.PNG is probably the same as File:Neutronupdowndown.PNG;
- File:Hydrogenshell.PNG is probably the same as File:Hydrogenprotium.PNG;
- File:Deuteriumshell.PNG is probably the same as File:Hydrogendeuterium.PNG;
- File:Tritiumshell.PNG is probably the same as File:Hydrogentritium.PNG.
I have requested speedy deletion. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 20:34, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
This is a slightly refined visual representation of the 2 common neutron forms (down/up/down and up/down/down) and the 3 stable forms of hydrogen with their proper quarks. They do represent the same 5 things (it has too, these forms of hydrogen are made up of specific quark combinations that are correct and match any physics book in existance), but I was trying to refine the description portion of the image.Edguy99 (talk)
