Goodies, tips, and tricks Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities. You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads. Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)

Please use SVG Thank you for uploading some images! Did you know that Wikimedia Commons recommends the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format for certain types of images? Scalable Vector Graphics are designed to look appropriate at any scale, and SVG images are easier to modify and translate, helping Wikimedia to distribute knowledge to all of the world. A lot of modern programs support SVG export. If you encountered problems or have questions, don't hesitate to ask me, a member of the Graphic Lab, or the Graphics village pump. Uploading images in SVG format isn't mandatory, but it would help. (To avoid any misunderstandings, please don't just put raster images into an SVG container as embedded raster.) Editing Wikipedia Articles on Medicine

Hi Eryk, I was looking at File:Editing_Wikipedia_articles_on_medicine.pdf and was quite impressed. It didn't, however, seem to give students much that would guide them to the applicable guidelines w:en:WP:MEDRS, w:en:WP:MOSMED, and particularly w:en:WP:CITEMED, except by way of a link to w:en:WP:MEDHOW. The impact is that many of the articles they draft are in forms which are difficult to assess and need substantial further revision to survive in mainspace.

For instance, this one is well written, but not in a style common to the project. The sources cited are not linked, making it more difficult to check that they are suitable under MEDRS. They each need a PMID or DOI or URL. Omitting these links raises the barrier to entry, making it harder on existing editors to review the student work in the limited time they have available. Please consider tweaking your PDF to add the above, and making the shortcuts shown in the PDF live links to those pages. Cheers LeadSongDog (talk) 18:51, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi LeadSongDog, thanks for the comments! We also have an online training of our own that focuses entirely on understanding MEDRS, written for novice Wikipedians, which is required of any student in a course editing those topics that would be reading this handout. The pdf you're looking at is intended to be printed, which is why the links aren't active. We mail hard copies to classrooms enrolled with Wiki Ed. In any case, I've flagged that article for our science content expert working with that course. Thank you. There have also (as a trivial example) been bemused comments at w:en:WT:WikiProject Medicine about the general propensity of students to overuse capitalization. This may just reflect style guides they are used to working with in their off-wiki studies, but it is rather inconvenient on-wiki. LeadSongDog (talk) 17:58, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Subject-specific brochures

Hi Eryk! Are the subject-specific brochures/handouts (like the one for [[:File:Editing Wikipedia articles on Chemistry (Wiki Ed).pdf|chemistry students) available as source files for easier translation? Also, if not, is the layout itself available somewhere? One of the reasons I'm asking is that we have a fairly successful program at Warsaw University's Faculty of Biology and I would like to present them with something similar (in Polish, obviously).
