Ambiguous name edit

@Richardkiwi: This request for renaming File:The Siege of Armentières with a rainbow, 1647 - 2021 CKS 20055 0016 d6350.jpg to File:Peter Snayers - The Siege of Armentières with a rainbow, 1647.jpg is incorrect. It is in fact correctly named. It's named in the same fashion as do museums and as does, our various bots and Fae. The name is per, how the Auction house named it with a suffix that includes the key numbers etc of the base file (or it's nuseum cat number. This is a shorthand to new uploaders so they know which file has already been uploaded to commons without having to rely on a checksum.̴̴

These spurious numbers you dont like represent Lot number: Live Auction 20055 lot 16 Sale 7 Dec 2021. As an aside the the suffix could well have been the Christie's, LotFinder: entry number which is 6350116. No matter its the same principal involved. Thouhgh in this case 6350116 cover a variet of file sixzes whera the numbe I use should be for the file actually uploaded.

An example of an ambiguous name is File:Choragiew-husarska.png. -Broichmore (talk) 17:18, 8 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ok thanks! I renamed it back to the 'old' (good) name. Regards, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 18:46, 8 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Since you have appointed yourself as the Christie's expert; what suffix do you find reliable? Bearing in mind that Christie's have been known to downgrade (reduce) the size of their images at the end of their links. Broichmore (talk) 13:39, 11 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Overwritting artworks with different images edit

Thank you for contributing images of paintings. Please don't overwrite images of artworks with different images like you did on File:Matthias Stom (c.1600-after 1650) - An Old Woman and a Boy by Candlelight - 1958P1 - Birmingham Museums Trust.jpg and File:Dirck van Baburen - Achilles preparing to avenge the death of Patroclus.jpg. This is not allowed per Commons:Overwriting existing files. Please upload these new photos under a different filename. Thank you, Multichill (talk) 20:57, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Renaming files edit

Hi Froutrouprou, You seem to be doing renames that are not in line with the policy at Commons:File renaming, at least some time ago. Are you aware of this policy? Can you please stick to it? This file was correctly named per the institution. His name as Pieter, which is correct; and their id numbers/negative number as a suffix, which is how our bots would have uploaded it. I am the uploader by the way. I upload art and that is very time consuming, slow and painful. Broichmore (talk) 15:36, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
