Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Listed buildings

(Apologies for writing in English, it's the only language I know)

I just noticed that not only are some of your photos of listed buildings, the name you have given them is that of their entry in Cadw's records, even when that is a little confusing. One example is Castle Chambers (Previously Listed With The Gosvenor Hotel) Bridge Street (the "previously listed" bit doesn't make sense in the context of the photo) and another is No.11 High Street (Midland Bank) (which was the Midland Bank back when Cadw listed it but is clearly HSBC in the photo).

I'm not all that bothered about the naming confusion, but it's clear you have an interest in listed buildings. Therefore you might like to know that it's possible to use a transclusion to give the listing special treatment in Wikimedia. Use {{Listed building Wales|12345}}. I've already done those two for you. I do others when I come across them, but if you're specifically adding listed buildings then it's better you add the Cadw reference when you upload rather than me maybe noticing months or years later. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brian de Ford (talk • contribs) 14:08, 16 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I have opposed some of your requests for deletion of your images, where I think the images are potentially useful. While images are sometimes deleted simply at the request of the uploader, there is no obligation to do this (see Commons:Deletion policy). If there are specific reasons why they should be deleted please give these on the deletion request pages. Straightforward photographs of people in a public place do not normally need their permission, see Commons:Photographs of identifiable people. I have made a cropped version of File:Cynog Dafis yn annerch y dorf Climate Strike, Aberystwyth.jpg and have added it to Cynog's Wikipedia articles. Verbcatcher (talk) 18:57, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I would like to add that I have noticed that you have had troubles with disruptive emails late at night because of deletion nominations. You might find it helpful that you can disable email notifications through Preferences > Notifications and then alter email notifications as you see fit. (Or this link I think https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo ) It might be easier for you and the admins than just nominating all of your old uploads. @轻语者: I have no wish to antagonise the uploader; my motivation is to keep valuable and potentially valuable images. As indicated in COM:GCSD#G7, we semi-automatically accept an author's speedy deletion deletion requests if they are made within about about seven days of upload; after this time deletions are subject to discussion. You cannot withdraw a valid licence; with the upload wizard you have to click on "I <name>, the copyright holder of this work, irrevocably grant anyone the right to use this work under the <type of licence> licence". I would have no hesitation in supporting these requests if these were personal family photographs. Those that I have looked at were taken in public places. Many of them show buildings of historical interest or noteworthy people or events.

BriefEdits has responded on the email issue; if there is a problem with setting this up then they could probably help further, as could the help desk. Verbcatcher (talk) 16:42, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please stop making repeated deletion requests for the same image where the first request has not been processed, as you have done with File:Carreg Bica chwarae yn Fire in the Mountain.jpg. This causes disruption and creates more work for other users, and it does not increase the chance of deletion. Feel free to expand on the reasons for your requests on the nomination pages (for example, at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Carreg Bica chwarae yn Fire in the Mountain.jpg).
