Hello, InExcelsisDeo!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

You cannot crop a copyrighted photograph then claim that the result is your own work, as I'm sure you have done with that one. Nor can you upload photographs found on other websites and pass them off as your own, as I think you have done with File:Rabinder Singh QC image Taken at the United Kingdom Supreme Court.PNG (from here, perhaps?) and with File:Nicholas Phillips, Baron Phillips of Worth Matravers.PNG. With the Rabinder Singh photos - were you really allowed to sit on the justices' side of the court in 2009 and take photographs of Singh? With the Phillips file, when and where did you get close enough to him to take a small candid photo of him? Bencherlite (talk) 11:37, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Regarding : http://archbishop-cranmer.blogspot.com/2011/08/rabinder-singh-qc-becomes-englands.html article was published after this photo was uploaded, ergo, the blogspot article cpoied it from wikipedia. --InExcelsisDeo (talk) 12:16, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

So where did you copy it from, then? Care to answer the questions about where you actually got any of those three photos? Bencherlite (talk) 12:54, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

In answer to your question the Rabinder Singh bio pic used in the info box come form a digital camera, which begs the question how did you get that angle becuase youd have to be a justice or do you?. The only cameras that can be used in the court are its own if you've every been you can see them mounted on the wall. However, on the bottom floor of the court there is an exhibition area which broadcasts the procedings of the court on a couple of big screen tv's of and shows all the angles, ergo, you can take a pic. --InExcelsisDeo (talk) 14:52, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

But even if you actually took that photograph of the UKSC television feed (and you don't go as far in your reply to say that you did - and I would expect a digital camera to produce EXIF data and a better quality photograph, incidentally), that television feed would be copyright to the UKSC. Therefore, you can't release a copy of your photograph under a free license, and the file is a copyright violation, and so needs to be deleted. And, once again, what about File:Nicholas Phillips, Baron Phillips of Worth Matravers.PNG? When and where did you take the photograph? Or did you get if from somewhere else, and if so where? File:Rabinder_Singh_QC_image_Taken_at_the_United_Kingdom_Supreme_Court.PNG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

It has Exif Data because i used the sniping tool on vista to crop it from the photograph, also isnt UKSC footage public domain like footage from the commons, lords and select committees. I'sat in the Lords (not the gallery) and in a selcet committee gallery before as a vistor and i queried about image use they told me all footage is public domain. I can't see why the UKSC would be any different. But then again i dont know.--InExcelsisDeo (talk) 15:14, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
