Hello Jimfbleak!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. BotMultichillT (talk) 22:52, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Please don't blank pagesEdit

Hi Jimfbleak,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked File talk:Sitta europaea2004-01-29.jpg on Commons. I asume you meant for the page to be deleted, but blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use {{speedy| type reason here }} and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regulary for deletion. Without this it might take a long time before it's noticed. Thanks again. 19:52, 25 May 2010 (UTC)–Krinkletalk

File moverEdit

The functionality of the template {{Rename}} has recently changed. You might need to clear your cache to see the changes. If successful you should then be able to use the new "Quick adding" link in the template to instruct CommonsDelinker to replace the old name with the new name in all wikis. Please use that every time you rename a file. If further questions arise, feel free to write on my talk page --DieBuche (talk) 10:00, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Karoo pictureEdit

Southafricajurassic.jpg is a nice picture, but without a coordinate I suspect we may not find out what the rocks are. With little knowledge on the subject I would have guessed it is Dwyka tillite and not Jurassic. So in short, any further information would be nice to have. JMK (talk) 19:40, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Update neededEdit

Hi Jim - could you split apart Thalasseus sandvicensis (Old World) and Thalasseus acuflavidus (New World) on this map File:Sterna sandvicensis-map-location-2.svg to two separate maps, please? I can't do it as I don't have a svg-editor programme. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 23:47, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! Yep, basically split the map in half down the Atlantic into two maps. I once tried to get inkscape, but when I tried installing it I got a warning saying it would damage my computer, so I didn't continue. - MPF (talk) 09:45, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 openEdit

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Melbourne CastleEdit

Hi Jim, nice picture of Melbourne Castle. It looks a bit squished compared to a similar view on Commons, is that how the image was originally? Nev1 (talk) 14:56, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Aha that looks spot on now. Thanks for fixing the issue, it's a really handy illustration. It looks like a fascinating place, it's a shame it was pulled down. Nev1 (talk) 12:53, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

File:Milvus milvus (side).jpgEdit

Hi Jim, there is an ongoing dispute between the author and another subject expert about the ID of File:Milvus milvus (side).jpg and File:Milvus milvus (portrait).jpg. I came to know that you too in the similar field; so expecting an opinion in this case. Thanks, Jee 02:55, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Jim - thanks for helping; there is also a flight pic here: File:Milvus milvus (in vlucht).jpg if that helps at all. - MPF (talk) 08:40, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

It is going severe; needs a cool headed approach. :) Jee 03:26, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your opinion. I hope you can help more in this case (by consulting other experts). Jee 11:01, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Maybe you know which thrush this is, it's not a spotted flycatcher. JMK (talk) 15:01, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi, i saw that you did many maps with shading. I'm building a new mapping service, in part to make these images much easier to build (e.g. if some country borders change in File:Crexegregiamap.png, you wouldn't want to re-create every map image that shows it. I jotted down some prototype notes here, let me know what you think, or whom I should talk to. Thanks! --Yurik (talk) 02:55, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Swiftlet i.d.Edit

Hi Jim - your pic File:GermansSwiftlet 048.jpg - going by the location of Chong Lom temple in Thailand, the only species of swiftlet mapped by Lynx HBW as occurring there is Aerodramus brevirostris, unless (a) google has given the wrong location for the temple, or (b) HBW's maps are wrong. How sure are you it is Aerodramus germani? Thanks! - MPF (talk) 17:15, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks! I suspect google pointed me in the wrong direction for the temple, it suggested two locations well inland in northern Thailand, not along the coast ;-) MPF (talk) 21:20, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Deleted ArticleEdit

Hi Jimfbleak, Some years ago you removed my article about 'shared reality'. This is a popular current area of research and I will appreciate it if you allow me to resume editing it and also making it visible again. Thank you, Robert Shuttleworth,

Notification about possible deletionEdit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries and Category:Maps needing Montenegro political boundariesEdit

Can you add Montenegro and South Sudan (because they were forgotten) in File:Caprimulgus europaeus distr.png and File:Caprimulgus europaeus -range map.png?

I am adding South Sudan (as well as Montenegro and other possible missing updates) in the PNG maps in Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries and Category:Maps needing Montenegro political boundaries, and then remove this category after updating them. There were close to 1100 maps since I started to update these files from 1 March 2018, now it is reduced to less than 780 maps, but there is a long way to go.

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps and complicated PMG maps myself, that is why I asked you.

Thank you.

Momni Page Deletion QuestionEdit

Hi Jimfbleak! It's Timtanman again. Thanks for all of the contributions that you bring to the table on this wonderful site. As you saw I remade the Momni page. Out of curiosity, what was the reason for deleting the page? In my drafts for this most recent one, I tried very hard to be objective about my summary of the company. I sourced reliable News networks and articles. There is no conflict of Interest in my creating of this page. I even looked at the page Airbnb as a model for this new one. I would love to know your thoughts and feedback about this issue. Is there anything you could advise me to do in creating pages in the future? Thank you so much!

Troverie Page DeletionEdit

Hi jimfbleak,

I tried to create a page called Troverie, but it was deleted and you blocked my account. I then made a new account to try to change the page a bit so that maybe it could get through, and you deleted that page. I was wondering what about the second page was promotional, since I pretty much cited everything and kept it as unbiased as I could. A quick response would be appreciated, as I would like to get back to creating this page.

You were blocked for spamming from a company account. You haven't been unblocked so you won't be allowed to edit until you are. Jimfbleak (talk) 14:29, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
