Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.

The items you have gone after on this page is for a station that is 30+ years in the grave. Out of business, and no longer broadcasting. Their iconography was not only never registered for trademark, it is long past any renewals that would have come along within the 28 years after their creation (yes, I do copyrights in my business). The last one, from 1989 would have been up for renewal in 2017, and nobody renewed it - but then it was never registered anyway (search at uspto.gov using the TESS search engine). The entire page is an homage to this beloved station long since silenced, which is constantly talked about in social media in the Dallas-Ft Worth area. There was no promotion to be had, no product to sell here, no station to listen to, no personalities to gain from exposure - actually, many of them are deceased. The issue here is not trademark (Commons actually can accept trademarked works under some circumstances), but copyright. A 1986 work could be in the public domain if it was published with neither a copyright notice nor a registration within 5 years, but we'd have to know for certain it really wasn't published with a notice and wasn't registered. Regardless, if you're going to tag something as your own work, it must be a work that you both originally created and still hold the rights to, and that certainly seems unlikely to be the case here. OK - copyright. I can go there - i hold several myself. There is but ONE copyright that involves KZEW and it is for a sound recording held by Todd Rundgren.(US Copyright # V3553 D981-982 P1-11) The main issue is that a page was deleted that represents the history of a historic radio station that has been off the air for 30+ years. Right now on FaceBook, there are at least 3 different social groups about the station, with over 20,000 members. That is enormous interest for a decades dead station. There was even a documentary about the station 'When Dallas Rocked' that came out a few years ago. I was merely answering the question, "Why is this not on Wiki"? I made it so - using materials that I had in my archives and checked to see if they were Public Domain in 2022. They were. The page was built - and bang. Gone. Let's review that. There is no business entity to promote here, just good vibes from the station that brought Dallas-Ft Worth band like Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Foghat, Journey, Rush, Eric Clapton, REM, Fleetwood Mac, U2 and hundreds of others. It seems you're conflating two discussions. The discussion regarding deletion of the images belongs here on Commons. I deleted the article on Wikipedia as promotional material. This should not be difficult. There are two issues. A page which was deleted that was NOT promotion. And images that are in the public domain. The TRADEMARK for KZEW [1] was assigned in 1985 an declared dead in 1992 - 30 years ago. There are no trademark issues. COPYRIGHT is easy to search : [2] and there are none registered. Even if they had been registered, they would have long ago expired with no company to renew them. Radio typically never did any copyrights on materials like this - I have been in the business for 48 years and it just wasn't part of practice. SO - the images are all in the public domain, there are no copyright / trademark issues here. That's the legal aspect of this. You can check my name Gimarc, you will find that I have many copyrights, several trademarks and even a pair of US Patents. I kinda know my way around these issues. YEAH - that's not clear at all. I sent in a permission for my own work, but the permission tag you told me to replace is nowhere to be seen.

BTW- I even went to the page you linked (Commons: But it's my own work!) for more details and it begins "Admiral Shoa Majidi Born in Nahavand, Tehran on November 17th, 1931 Died in Livorno, Italy on July 27th, 2022.." and is a detailed life story of some military figure from Iran. This is a lot of talk over a sticker for a radio station that has been gone 30+ years. There is no live copyright OR trademark associated with this station, except in the title of a Todd Rundgren release of a live concert broadcast. These are public domain illustrations now, and were never copyrighted or trademarked to begin with. - Although, to be fair, 98 KZEW was trademarked in 1982, but it was declared a dead mark by the USPTO in 1992, three years after the station was sold and stopped using the name 'KZEW' Reelgeorge (talk) 14:22, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
