Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Beastieboys Images edit
The "permission" does not specify in what way the images may be used and redistributed. Images on Commons must be released under such license so redistribution (also commercially) and modifications must be allowed. As these images are regular promotional images I doubt that they fulfill this criteria. Please make the permission statement more specifc, otherways the images have to be deleted. Thank you! --Matt314 13:15, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Sconvolpi74, thanks for your comment on my talk page. To me the permission sounds like "you can publish the image in the Wikipedia article". But I think he is not aware that the image might be used by other persons and redistibuted without asking the press agency beforehand. I think he did not know that the images have to be released under a free license. Please see Commons:email templates to see what he actually needs to agree to. At the English Wikipedia it is possible to include certain media files (e.g. promotion material) under a fair use rationale, this is not possible at Commons and as far as I know not in the Italian Wikipedia. --Matt314 10:07, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- The best thing you can do is you can have them agree to this form. They have to agree to a license of their choice from this list, e.g. a CC-BY-SA license, {{Attribution}}, {{Copyrighted free use}} or {{GFDL}}. If you received a permission, please make sure to forward it to permissions@wikimedia.org. --Matt314 14:12, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- The quote added to pages of images like Image:Bboysawesome.jpg or Image:Bboyscovsghlg.jpg say "we have general use press images available on
our website that can be published with no strings attached" but it does not say that all images on the web may be reproduced freely. I do not understand how they can permit publication of album covers whose rights must belong to the band, companies and authors. --Javier ME 21:56, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Can you still forward the email to OTRS so that the folks there (permissions@wikimedia.org) can decide if all is well? Thanks. Deadstar (msg) 08:48, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:Bboyscovsghlg.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |
Your account will be renamed edit
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Sconvolpi74. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Sconvolpi74~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
