La verifica della licenza è un processo relativo ai file importati da Flickr, Picasa, Panoramio, YouTube ed altri siti web esterni che forniscono immagini sotto diverse licenze. Le persone che caricano i loro materiali in questi web album scelgono una licenza, alcune delle quali sono libere e adatte a Commons, mentre altre non sono libere e non devono essere caricate su Commons.
Alcuni di questi siti esterni permettono ai propri utenti di selezionare la licenza scelta e cambiarla in ogni momento, senza che in un registro resti traccia della licenza precedente del file. Ciò significa che non è facile controllare se un'immagine che è segnata come non libera sia stata originariamente caricata con licenza libera. Ciò rende problematico l'uso di queste immagini nei progetti Wikimedia.
Wikimedia Commons ha per queste ragioni un processo di controllo per verificare lo stato del copyright delle immagini caricate da questi siti esterni, che prevede la verifica delle immagini con licenza libera da parte di un bot o di un utente affidabile (amministratori ed utenti approvati dalla comunità) e l'identificazione di immagini dove la licenza di Commons sia diversa. Questo metodo non è comunque in grado di stabilire se l'immagine sia mai stata libera.
Importatori
I contributori che caricano materiale la cui licenza dipende da una dichiarazione (scritta) in un sito web esterno dovrebbero marcare la pagina di descrizione del file con uno dei tag presenti in Category:License review tags. Utilizza {{Flickrreview}} per le immagini provenienti da Flickr e {{LicenseReview}} se non sono disponibili tag per siti web specifici.
Here are a few things you can do to make the task easier for reviewers:
- If it is a still image from YouTube make sure to add the time where the image can be found. For example, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM-0zmCz9yI&t=0m40s (0m40s)
- If the license is not clearly visible over/under/next to the image, add a link and short text in the "Permission field" telling the reviewer where to find the license.
- If it is a file from Flickr, iNaturalist (and other pages?) where we have a bot to review the file, please upload the original file and wait for the bot to review the file (usually takes a minute or two) before uploading a cropped/edited version.
- Consider going to https://web.archive.org/ and check if the webpage is archived there; if not you can save a copy.

Gli amministratori non hanno bisogno di questo diritto. È un gruppo di utenti usato per la gestione dell'elenco di revisori al posto di un elenco, precedentemente utilizzato ed ora archiviato qui. I revisori e gli amministratori possono confermare le licenze dalle varie categorie elencate sul template verde a destra (link), inclusi i file da Album web di Picasa e Flickr.
Per diventare un revisore, è necessario avere familiarità con la politica generale delle licenze di Commons. Ad un revisore è richiesto di sapere quali licenze sono permesse su Wikimedia Commons e quali no, ed avere familiarità con le restrizioni applicabili, come la libertà di panorama.
Pubblica la tua richiesta sulla pagina delle richieste, cosicché la comunità possa esprimere le proprie opinioni. Dopo alcuni giorni, un revisore o un amministratore determina se non esistono obiezioni gravi alla candidatura.
Se non ci sono, l'utente chiuderà la richiesta ed aggiungerà il candidato al gruppo utente dei Image-reviewers. Se i permessi vengono concessi puoi aggiungere {{User reviewer}} (o una delle sue varianti) alla tua pagina utente ed iniziare a revisionare le immagini.
Attualmente non esiste una linea guida per la rimozione dei diritti dei revisori delle licenze. In caso di evidente abuso o di grave incompetenza, una richiesta di rimozione può essere inoltrata sulla bacheca degli Amministratori. L'inattività non è al momento una ragione valida per la rimozione del flag.
Instruzioni per i revisori
Il modo più semplice di revisionare le immagini è usare uno script di revisione della licenza (vedi[[Template:LicenseReview5|configurazione]]). Per usare questo script, aggiungilo al [[Template:LicenseReview6|tuo common.js]]:
Prima di eseguire lo script, il file deve essere revisionato prima. Per favore nota che a partire dal 21 febbraio 2012, i revisori di immagine non possono revisionare i propri file caricati senza che l'account sia approvato come bot. Questo fa sì che almeno due persone, o una persona ed un bot, hanno controllato che la licenza scelta è corretta. Le revisioni dei revisori di immagini sui propri caricamenti saranno considerate non valide. Nel revisionare file da qualsiasi sito di album, ricordarsi il file e cambiare la pagina del file quando necessario:
- Licenza libera. La prima cosa che revisioni è la licenza su un sito. La licenza può essere una delle licenza accettate da Wikimedia Commons, ma il file può anche fallire il processo di revisione ed essere conseguentemente cancellato (Il tab Licenza - nello script). Questa pagina elenca alcuni grandi siti che ospitano materiale multimediale e dove la licenza vi può essere trovata (a volte, non è assolutamente ovvio).
- Sia la licenza che l'autore devono corrispondere a quelli indicati nel sito dell'album. Se la licenza è fra quelle accettate su Commons, ma non è la licenza indicata nella pagina del file, cambiatela in modo che le licenze corrispondano. È cortese collegare il nome dell'autore alla pagina del profilo del sito web associato. Si noti che servizi come Flickr danno ai loro utenti la possibilità di scegliere il nickname.

- URL della fonte È essenziale che la fonte sia collegata alla pagina corretta del sito dell'album. Se trovi un link che collega ad una pagina sbagliata e dove non appare il file, cerca comunque di cercare la corretta fonte e correggere il link su Commons. If there’s no success, use {{Flickr no source}} and {{Nsd}} (License - tab, select No source indicated, on License reviewer script).
- Are they really the copyright holder? Consider whether the picture on the album site was really made by that user. Many users have no clue about copyrights, and “freely” license images for which they do not own the copyright! Vedere Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Questionable Flickr images. If the image is of a sculpture or a building, do check also that there are no freedom of panorama issues.
- If the uploader was not the author (the only way to be sure is for the web album user to post their Commons ID on the web album user page), check to ensure the web album user actually freely licensed the photo and that the correct license was cited by the uploader.
- Thank you. Consider leaving a thank-you message on the album site image page (this requires an account in the associated album site). You can use the following message template; replace Foo.jpg with the real name (this is in pure HTML - depending on the site you may have to adjust the link syntax):

Once all this information has been reviewed for the image, you now change the template manually or via script. For script, see script documentation for more details. You can also do it manually, which is described more in detail at {{Flickrreview}}. The following is a table of all possible combinations for the flickrreview template (change to picasareview, panoramioreview, etc.). If you like the manual procedures, you might copy the source code of this table into your user page and put your username into it.
It helps with the copy and paste work, since the date is changed automatically and there are templates for every case of license. If the server forgets to change after midnight UTC, you can use the purge link to refresh.
