Hi there! File:Marcus Johansson 2.JPG: I think this guy is trying to find a girl friend with that cake, is this permitted? (We -fat people- should somehow get this pick deleted. :-) --E4024 (talk) 12:34, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

I consider an image like that to be gratuitous exhibitionism, but if others get something out of it, more power to them. As to fat people having it deleted, that doesn't concern me, as I'm a skinny person.   INeverCry 21:32, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Jack Swigert statue pictures request

You deleted the four pictures that I uploaded, Jack Swigert statue at Denver Airport - 1.jpg through Jack Swigert statue at Denver Airport - 4.jpg.

In the deletion discussion, I offered to contact the artists who created the sculpture to get a copyright release. I requested help with that procedure (what do I need to tell them Wikimedia needs by way of release, etc.) but no-one gave me the advice I requested, and you ignored that request and just deleted the files, which I find to be exasperating behaviour.

There is another problem. Since I uploaded those four pictures some years ago, my computer hard drive crashed and I lost my own copies of them. On hearing that they might be deleted I resolved to download the copies at Wikimedia if it seemed that the deletion debate was tending towards "delete" rather than "keep" but your precipitate action of deletion without warning, without responding to my request for advice, means I had no warning, and have no copies of my own pictures any more. Can you at least dig out those pictures for me and e-mail them to me please? O'Dea (talk) 21:40, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

See COM:OTRS for details on license permissions. Revent (talk) 21:44, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
@O'Dea: I can email you the 4 images, but you'll have to send me a quick email so I can send them directly to your email, as email thru Commons doesn't allow attachments. As to the other part of your message above, I handle a heavy load of deletion requests, so I often do things quick and by the books and then move on to the next request. My apologies if this particular close upset you. INeverCry 21:56, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Chianti images, possible sock

Hi, you recently deleted File:BOTTIGLIA_CHIANTI_RISERVA_-_THE_VINUM_"il_Rosso".tif, and shortly thereafter a user with a similar username created File:Chianti in spiaggia.jpg. I removed the cc-by-sa license from it and tagged it as orphan fair use. Feel free to revert if that was incorrect to do.

I recall from seeing the first image yesterday before it was deleted, that the two images are the same subject. If you can look at the revision history of the one you deleted, are they the same image? Amatulic (talk) 22:42, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

William F. Frye

Hi, today you deleted a file that is most likely in public domain or is a personal photo of Blyhigh. As I posted previously on the page, I thought my mother had the copyright to the file because my father was a portrait photographer from Oregon. So I asked on the forum how I can transfer the right to the person who posted the file originally. It is probably his dad or relative. However, my mother later told me that my father never took that shot. Our family lawyer confirmed that. I tried to help blyhigh but ended up hurting him. How can the file https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:William_F._Frye.jpg be reuploaded? Thanks. A.K. Russo19:10, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

File:Barefoot is back.PNG

Why did you delete this file and the others as a copyright violation when they had permission for non-commercial use? --AusLondonder (talk) 06:10, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Commons doesn't accept licenses that restrict commercial use. See COM:L for license policy. INeverCry 07:24, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
With regards to File:Barefoot skateboard trick.PNG which you deleted, commercial use is allowed.--AusLondonder (talk) 08:44, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
But it prohibits derivative use, which is yet another license that's not allowed on Commons. As for File:Barefoot is back.PNG, I would also point out that while the image itself has a Flickr license, the image is of a large logo, which is itself copyrighted, making the photo of it a derivative work. The Flickr uploader is unlikely to be the copyright holder of the logo, so OTRS permission from the logo's creator/copyright holder would be needed before that image could be hosted on Commons. To reiterate, the license for File:Barefoot skateboard trick.PNG would have to drop the ND to be hosted here. Have a look at Flickr image info for a quick guide to acceptable licenses for Commons. Hi there, you deleted the following files File:Rob Small.jpg File:In Hospital.JPG File:Rob with pulk.jpg I was unsure how to edit the files to add the correct licence before they were deleted. these files are all free to use with permission given by the holders Steve Hall, Nancy Small and Seb Coulthard respectively and are all already online in the public domain. How do i go about fixing this so the files can be used? kindest regards Gazloki (talk)

You have to address the issue brought up by LX at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Gazloki. We need confirmation of permission for an acceptable free license for each file from each author. See COM:L for license guidelines, and OTRS for directions on having the copyright holders send permission. INeverCry 20:13, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

"Mary Ann Tighe portrait by Arthur Elgort.jpg"

Hey there, I sent a permission statement to "permissions-commons@wikimedia.org" on June 9th from Mary Ann Tighe (who owns the rights to the photograph that Arthur Elgort took of her) that states the image I uploaded can be posted to Wikimedia Commons for everyone’s use. If there's something else I can do to get the image reinstated, please let me know...I'm new to Wikimedia and appreciate the help. Thank you! MisterRedDog88 (talk) 13:28, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Undeletion request

Hi there! Would you consider undeleting File:Uberstudent-1.0-education-menu.jpg? I came across it while closing possibly-unfree-file discussions on enwiki. The image is a screenshot of FOSS software, and the source page clearly displays a CC-BY-SA license. If there's some other reason it's still not appropriate for Commons, we can keep the local copy instead. —Darkwind (talk) 11:27, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Done I've restored it and updated the source/author info. Hopefully your fellow admin agrees with this? I would also note that the screenshots on that page that contain screensaver images may not be OK unless the images themselves are also free (in case anyone was thinking of uploading more screencaps from that source). This file was deleted for copyright violation. The uploader claimed it was their own work. How did you establish that this was not true? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pbsouthwood (talk • contribs) · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 11:18, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

@Pbsouthwood: (stalking here, as usual) The image appears to be a stock photo of a commercial product with an obviously copyrightable design, and is available from the website of the designer, as was noted in the speedy deletion nomination. Because the image was previously published on the internet, and because it is a derivative work of a copyrightable object, it cannot be on commons without a declaration of consent per COM:OTRS.
Not that I can speak for INC, but looking at the image the deletion was obvious. COM:NETCOPYRIGHT probably applies here. Revent (talk) 08:55, 16 June 2015 (UTC)
Just to make it more clear, after rereading what I wrote, I mean that the way in which the product is depicted in the photograph is 'obviously copyrightable'... the object itself is utilitarian, though of a unique (and presumably patented) design. Revent (talk) 09:28, 16 June 2015 (UTC)
The uploader claimed own work. If this is true, then the uploader can license the photo as they choose, whether is has been used on the net bere or not. I agree that is is possible that they were lying, but the username chosen suggests it is possible that the photo was taken and uploaded by the designer/manufacturer of the product, who wished to remain anonymous. Has this been checked in any way? · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 11:18, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

My uploadings of public domain photos

I believe, if my memory is correct, that you accepted that my copyright claims were valid on a lot of the public domain photos I uploaded. There are still a handful left, such as this one, they are from the same website so I'm pretty sure the answer will be that they're approved, but the formality needs to be gone through,[3].PaulBustion87 (talk) 09:56, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

They look fine to me. They'll all get reviewed within the next day or two. INeverCry 10:03, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

My Fire Department photo

I posted a photo of my city's Fire Department,[4]. But it was not very good because a large shrub covered up a large portion of the building, including almost all of the sign that said Anderson Fire Department, and a car was driving in front of the building, and I was on the opposite street. I think that photo should just be deleted, along with my other Anderson Police Department photo, and I'll just take a photo of them when I'm outside next to them sometime. I walk past my city's fire and police stations frequently on my way to the library, and I've figured out how to photograph them without their noticing me. Since I have a cell phone I just carry it in my hand after pushing the button to focus on the camera section and have my hand next to my pocket so no one notices I'm using it and then press the click button, that way no one will talk to me about it. So I probably should be able to get the better photos of the police and fire stations today, so go ahead and delete the bad photos. PaulBustion87 (talk) 10:11, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Bots

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Question

Maestro, I generally use a cellphone for taking pictures, and tend to keep them in smaller (around 250-300 kb) versions for space economy. I wonder if I load (as I have done sometimes) the bigger versions (around 1 mb) will that give better result in picture quality or will it be an unnecessary burden on the system? Thanks in advance. --E4024 (talk) 14:12, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Space isn't an issue here, so I would recommend using the higher quality settings available on your phone for taking images. INeverCry 19:56, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Moreover the servers automatically generate thumbnails and other reduced previews, so users with limited space or bandwidth can choose a size suitable for their needs regardless of how large the original may be. Note that a decent tabloid or A3 print (let alone a large poster) calls for an image of about ten megapixels or more, and high-quality archival photos of paintings run in the gigabytes, so a file can scarcely be too large! Except that the maximum file size is 100 MiB here, for technical reasons. In principle you could upload a 10-GB picture as a 10 × 10 mosaic of 100-MB tiles.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 20:16, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Really old DNs

Greetings INC: I tried to clear even more old DNs today and found that most/many/a lot of the oldest ones are all my nominations and I don't feel good about closing my own nominations, even when all the votes are vd. Could you take a look and see what we can do to wipe out this nearly month-old backlog? Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:16, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do. I'm glad you liked that tree. It's 100+ here, so I was thinking more of the shade!   INeverCry 19:09, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
@Ellin Beltz: I closed quite a few of the old DRs. I was going to close that 6,000 file May DR, but Green Giant beat me too them by a matter of minutes.   INeverCry 00:20, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Dear INeverCry, I have restored the media File:Livingston-Island-Map-2010.jpg that you deleted yesterday as it is duly licensed. File:Autoretrato de Yanto Laitano em elevador.jpg

Dear INeverCry, I would like to know what is the problem with the file I´ve posted (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Autoretrato_de_Yanto_Laitano_em_elevador.jpg). I fixed the problem but the file was deleted.

Thank you, Tumpatumcla~commonswiki — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tumpatumcla~commonswiki (talk • contribs) 16:40, July 5, 2015‎ (UTC)

This was first uploaded with Yanto Laitano as author and later changed to "own work". The image has been previously published on other websites. If you're Yanto Laitano, you'll need to send an email to OTRS, preferably from a yantolaitano.com email address. INeverCry 18:52, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Thank you, INeverCry. I am new at the Wiki world. Actually I don'e know if I am answering you in a suitable way (according to Wiki style) or not. Yes, it was published on other websites by myself. Well, I will send an email to OTRS but I will use my personal account. Is that ok? Tumpatumcla~commonswiki (talk) 21:41, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

A yantolaitano.com email address would be beyond doubt, but it's ultimately up to the OTRS member who handles your email to determine if the permission you send is sufficient. INeverCry 21:48, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
I wrote to OTRS. Thank you, Tumpatumcla~commonswiki (talk) 00:52, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
dear INeverCry, i think there are being created difficulties in excess to this newbie. i know him personally, he is my friend, i am an old user and i think my word could be taken into account on this issue. what he is saying is true, i have no reason to doubt him. and he being the author, why he can't upload his selfportrait here? there must be no doubt about the identity of Yanto Laitano and the authorship of the pictures he would upload. hope you understand. thanks! tetraktys (talk) 22:11, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
An OTRS email will put any question as to his identity and authorship of the image beyond doubt, and can be helpful in avoiding any possible future confusion and questions. If you or he disagree with my decision in this case, you have the option of posting an undeletion request. INeverCry 22:38, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
ok, thanks tetraktys (talk) 23:33, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Deletion of photo depicting Kurt Walter Bachstitz by Arnold Genthe

Hi, you deleted this photo File:Bachstitz Walter portrait by Arnold Genthe (1923).png. You argued that it was possibly copyrighted. It is not, because the author, Arnold Genthe is dead since 1942. You can check him out on the German Wikipedia for example. This means that his work is public domain in the EU and the US. There are tons of photos by Arnold Genthe on Wiki Commons already.

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Bengali people.jpg

Hi INeverCry, I see that you deleted/authorised deletion of the above collage. I note that there was no deletion discussion, probably because no one in wikipedia appears to have been notified that the discussion was even taking place. The nominator didn't even bother putting a notification on the article's talkpage ie. Talk:Bengalis (or any of the relevent wikiprojects) or tag the wikiarticle so that editors were aware that there was any problem. I was involved with the comprehensive discussions about who was going to appear in the collage. Sorry but as an editor without experience of pictures or wikicommons i don't know how to get this collage back. I will start a discussion on the Bengalis talkpage asking that the editors involved with creating the collage assist in getting it back. As an experienced picture person, i would very much appreciate your assistance in this regard. thanks Coolabahapple (talk) 06:06, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

I've temporarily restored File:Bengali people.jpg. There are 2 images in the collage that have no source image here on Commons. If @Nafsadh: or someone else can switch out the image in the top right corner of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay with File:Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.jpg, and the 4th image in the third row of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with File:Sheikh mujibur rahman1950.jpg, which looks to be the best quality Commons image of this gentleman, the collage can be kept permanently. All files used in the collage have to be sourced. I can give him a day or two (or anyone else who has time to fix those 2 images). Without a fix, the image would have to be re-deleted. INeverCry 15:59, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Please refer to the discussion here: en:Talk:Bengalis#Non-free_images_in_collage. We have resolved all known issues there. I believe, one missing source (Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay) is indeed in PD. Another image of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman File:Sheikh_mujibur_rahman1950.jpg is in Commons. If current one does not comply, we can change. Nafsadh (talk) 03:43, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
No discussion of image copyright on en.wiki will negate Commons policy, namely COM:FU. The two images I mention above are not on Commons. One was recently deleted. We need the 2 unsourced images to be replaced with free ones in the collage in order to keep it hosted here. I can give you a day or two. INeverCry 05:50, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
The discussion on en:Wiki was about commons compliance for the collage. I am unsure if File:Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.jpg is really a photo, it rather appears like a painting and could be non-free. Our finding was that, the other file on en:Wiki was free and commons compliant; please check if you concur. If so, we can move that file here. I am updating the collage by replacing both photos with the ones now on commons. Nafsadh (talk) 06:53, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
Updated, please delete previous version from history. Nafsadh (talk) 07:08, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
Done Looks good to me. File:Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.jpg looks like a contemporary engraving or print done from a photo for publication. He looks to be around 40 years old, so this is probably circa 1870s/1880s. INeverCry 07:16, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Block notice

This account has been blocked until Tue, 11 Aug 2015 16:34:34 GMT (30 days from start of block). Blocking admin: me (Pitke). Reason for block: abuse of admin tools, baseless accusations, disruptive editing. One block reason I failed to remember to enter while blocking was pointiness (in the form of accusations and blocks, and edit summary for deleting their user page).

Previous to this block INeverCry had placed an indefinite block on themselves on grounds of "Intimidation/harassment", and blanked their user page and user talk with messages implying they were intending to leave Commons for a good long while, if not forever.

My original understanding of INC's situation was that their patience had failed and they had acted hasty and In light of recent discussion on INC's de-adminship proposal and elsewhere, my personal interpretation was that INC had grown overly impatient and perhaps paranoid of an user with an all-project block and a range of sockpuppets. The edit summary ICN left as they deleted their user page supports this assumption rather heftily.

In this light, in my understanding INC's autoblock was a part of a pointy demonstration that went something like this: 1) "these users are [a certain blocked user's] sockpuppets or cronies, no one else is going to block them so I will" 2) "and here's the block the Secret Cabal will give me when they catch me so I'll save them the trouble and block myself".

I hope that in a month's time INC will have calmed down and will be able to discuss the situation in a constructive way. However my experience on Wikipedia is that users who start acting out or being pointy due to suspicions of Secret Cabals do not have a favourable prognosis as a contributing member of a project.

I personally view my block action not only as a block due to misconduct but also as an amendment of an overly long block made based on wrong reasons. --Pitke (talk) 14:29, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

I'll be back...

I guess I'll have to wait another week or so before editing here again. My July 11 actions were occasioned by Russavia's creation of the account Snitches get stitches, which I have every reason to believe was directed squarely at me, since I've reported 100+ of his sock accounts to WMFOffice.

Hopefully I can get back the filemover right, which I was given in 2010, and the image reviewer right, as I've done a lot of work there and can keep backlogs down. I was thinking again of retiring earlier, but I've put in too much work and enjoy being at Commons too much to let a bad day or some bad moments stand in the way of more good years to come. @Hedwig in Washington: Yeah, I started a shitstorm with that unblock anyways, though I don't regret it. I wouldn't want to see you get yourself in any trouble unblocking me though. I was just in a bit of a pissy mood yesterday. Sorry about that old friend. INeverCry 00:59, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Looks good, but blocked users aren't allowed through the door, even if they do have 250,000 edits and 350,000 log actions... Russavia was still allowed to do 500+ edits here today though, including one right out on AN/U. Isn't that nice and fair? INeverCry 07:54, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Well, Commons isn't 100% fair. Nice yes, most times at least. And hey, no more R******a usage. You said so yourself. ;) --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 19:08, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ellin. Good to hear from you. I'm feeding the nursing mother cat 4 or 5 times a day right now. She lets me pet her like she was mine now. I started feeding her and several others about 3 years ago when they were only about 6 months old. The other female cat isn't all that big, but she has attitude to make up for it; the males are now 2 or 3 times as big as they were back then... I let my neighbor feed them. He's an auto mechanic, so he can afford it better.

As for me coming back, when I get back, I'm going to stick to license reviewing and the uncatted pile. At least I no longer have to think about adminship... INeverCry 00:59, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Deletion request

Can someone delete User talk:INeverCry/Editnotice? It still indicates that I'm an admin and is useless now. INeverCry 07:54, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Now that you're back…

MichaelMaggs's note when closing your de-adminship request said, among others, that should you find yourself able and willing to return, and to discuss the incident, we should be willing to listen. I am quite convinced that many people, especially those who voted to have your admin privileges removed, would be willing to understand what prompted you to indefinitely block two seemingly uninvolved users, @ and @Stemoc, when it is clear that they have never been anyone's sockpuppets. Now that you're planning to return to active editing, and perhaps trying to start afresh, I think it's necessary that we have at least some sort of explanation of that incident so that we can move forward and leave this behind. odder (talk) 13:01, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

PS I've only seen this edit of yours just now, but perhaps you'll change your mind. odder (talk) 13:09, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Leave them be. They're de-adminned, nothing else is going to happen. There is nothing good to come of pushing this further. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:53, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
  • INeverCry, I do realise your latest comment in this thread is supposed to be a joke, but I consider it of bad taste, especially considering what transpired not so long ago. It is a personal attack. I ask you to retract that comment. --Pitke (talk) 09:54, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
    • I've removed the comment, which was meant as something of a joke, but jokes aren't what's needed at this point.

I noticed a comment made here by @: also, which I want to address: My block of you was wrong and a very poor decision on my part. I regret it and I sincerely apologize for it. I regret that I allowed myself to take this whole situation with Russavia so far. I think it's better now that I'm not an admin, and won't be one again for several years, if ever. I have a tendency to act impulsively and erratically, where consistency and steadiness are needed, and I let stress and anger get the best of me. When this block ends, I'm going to return to image reviewing and clean-up work, and focus on being more relaxed and reasonable.

As to @Odder: 's question, my block of Fae was more of an indirect attack on Russavia than anything else. My block of Stemoc was a response to this. As far as I know the whole thing between me and Stemoc centers on my [admittedly] bad/mistaken block of Popeye191 and my initial resistance to unblocking him. Now that I've been de-sysopped and I'm going to be focusing on license reviewing and general editing, I don't think our paths will cross much if at all in future. My block of Stemoc was wrong and immature as well, though that's only stating the obvious.

I wish I could rewind the clock by a year or so and do things better, as I'm never happy with myself when I act irresponsibly and inappropriately, but I can only take each day as it comes and do my best to control myself and be more steady in future (if I don't, I'll deserve to be blocked again - it's as simple as that). I've probably said enough here for the time being, so I think I'll wait until my block has ended before editing again. INeverCry 21:16, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

      • @INeverCry: For what it's worth, I understood your comment as a joke, too, but had no plans to press you any further. So thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my questions in this very detailed way: I think your ability to recognise your mistakes and apologize for them speaks volumes here. I realize I am in quite an awkward position here, being the person who started your de-RfA, but on my part, I would have nothing against @Pitke unblocking you before the block is supposed to run its course: I think it could have a hugely positive symbolic value. odder (talk) 21:33, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

hello & welcome back :)

i am not clear on what the hell really happened, & i disagree with the ban on russavia; in no small part due to the appalling lack of information, & the way "office" has completely overridden the community proces. the lack of transparency, explanation, & accountability is 'very' damaging to trust between the wfm & the community.

BUT i didn't want you banned either, & im glad you have returned.

...not to put to fine a point on it, but you made a HELL of a mess @ wikidata, with your last big round of editing, before you were gone.

if you haven't already, please could you go over there & sort it out? (i left you a "moderately scathing" message over there, before finding out that you'd been banned; please take it in the context of having been written without knowing anything about the situation, beyond the appearance of a large number of inexplicably bad edits @ wikidata, by a user who i would not expect such things from)

i'm sorry to be so blunt, but i dont really know you well enough to say anything else meaningful here. the welcome-back is sincerely meant.

Lx 121 (talk) 10:35, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm only seeing one edit over there in my contribs from the night of July 11th, which is when I went batshit over here. INeverCry 18:28, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

i don't know what you are seeing on this end, but if you go on wikidata, & look @ you user contribs there, from the time just before your ban, you will see a crapload of commons items removed from their linkages @ wikidata, without any apparent valid reason. i traced a few of them, & it wasn't simply moves or consolidations; items were unlinked @ wikidata, leaving nothing. Lx 121 (talk) 14:35, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

I went there. If you're referring to the ones that start with "Page on [commonswiki] deleted", those edits were automatically done after deletions of empty categories and such here through CFD/CSD. INeverCry 19:54, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Russavia

Hello IneverCry, I just noticed that Russavia has been banned. Having he been an administrator it must be about something serious, what did he do? -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 15:30, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi Sergio. Russavia was banned by WMFOffice, so only the WMF could answer that question. INeverCry 19:58, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
And they won't say more than "harassment of other users". Don't bother asking, it's a matter of policy and confidentiality as mulled over many times at various discussions. Office bans are forever, so that says something. --Pitke (talk) 20:50, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
Ok, now it's late night. Tomorrow I want to talk about some Russavia's subpages which we should decide what to do of. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 23:42, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
There is this category with all the subcategories. I suppose they were created with a specific goal, but now how are we supposed to manage them? -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 07:58, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
PS I've blanked and protected Russavia's talk page as it is infested by anonymous and socks.
I have deleted a small number of Russavia's personal subpages but didn't touch those that may need replacement in a different namespace. --Pitke (talk) 09:35, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Blackcat, there was a discussion about that, and the conclusion was that semi-protection should be sufficient, to allow posting DR messages. We can't block all vandalized pages, and I follow Russavia's talk page, so I am not sure it is necessary. My 0.02 Rs. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:38, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Ok Yann, I just did as precautionary measure, but if you say so, it's fine the way you do. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 10:00, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Generally agree with suggestion. AFAIR the files I've seen in that category have often been ineligible for a Speedy and placed there without an explanation, by likely socks. Such use serves no purpose other than possibly tricking new or unfamiliar admins into deleting files there, essentially handing socks a semi-automatic deletion tool. --Pitke (talk) 08:19, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
So what are we going to do? -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 09:33, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
@Blackcat: There's only a dozen or so files in it. It shouldn't be controversial to remove them, delete the category, and full-protect it. I deleted it once already after Russavia's ban. Russavia then asked me via email to restore it, which I declined to do. He then re-created it using a now locked sock. Another concern about files being in a deletion category like this is that people who want to use the files may be confused or stopped if/when they notice the category, possibly thinking the files will be deleted soon and seeing no point in using them because of it. INeverCry 20:52, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Please recall these words. Thanks -- (talk) 21:50, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

@: This topic was brought here to my talk by Blackcat. Also, it was you who first pointed out the issues with the Russavia deletion category when I deleted 40 images from it and subsequently restored them after considering your concerns, which were quite valid. I redacted the unblock request you link, but I still don't plan on seeking out or creating any further Russavia-related drama. If something about him is posted here on my talk, I feel it's appropriate to engage in constructive discussion. INeverCry 22:03, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
It would be most constructive if requests for action about any WMF locked accounts or disruptive sockpuppet abuse were on AN/U. There is no doubt participants here would respect your preferences, if you wish to steer clear of Russavia related debates in the future. There is no benefit for anyone to trawl through past problems and analysing related allegations, whether true or not, on your user talk page.
I hope you can take this as a simple observation intended to learn from recent past problems and your previous wishes to start afresh.
If you would like to focus on some rather enjoyable 18th/19th-century content, I have started uploading delightful scans from the Biodiversity Heritage Library, which should increase our collection a few times over and which require a lot of organization with creator templates and so forth. Have a browse, it's why we are really here. Thanks -- (talk) 22:24, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
I've noticed those uploads (they're quite to my taste), and done some rotation requests and a handful of license reviews on a series of botany pages that the review bot skipped. I wish we had a bot that would focus only on the images with reversed dimensions that the review bot skips. Kind of a complementary Flickr review bot junior.

Also, in the interest of avoiding any possible problems, I'll refrain from making any further Russavia-related suggestions or comments in this thread (or anywhere else). INeverCry 22:44, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I read your case. Hope so you will come back some day. It seems that you felt bad after desysoping, but there is positive thing for not being admin is that we get little bit freedom while editing, otherwise admin has to behave somewhat ideal. It is not good to get retired permanently. Wikipedia/Commons is really very nice media to spread knowledge or information to millions of people in the world. We can increase coverage about topics related our nation, city, profession, hobbies etc. One can edit whenever he/she gets some time, it is not compulsory to edit daily, not even weekly. One can edit once monthly too and can update about favorite things. But leaving this nice place permanently like this way really very hurtning thing. Anyway, Take care.--Human3015 (talk) 12:24, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
