Kategorierna är som vanligt byggnadsminnen, fornminnen, K-märkta fartyg och arbetslivsmuseer, och du är välkommen att bidra med bilder hela september. Om du varit ute i världen och rest kan du även se om resorna sammanfaller med övriga internationella deltävlingar, och i så fall vara med och tävla även där.

English category names for Swedish places?

Why do you name categories for Swedish parks like Hjo City Park etc. by some english name? For most foreigners (Danes, Norwegians, Germans) and I guess for most Swedes as well, using the Swedish name Hjo stadspark would be much more intuitive.--Hjart (talk) 22:04, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Well, Wikimedia Commons is rather an internationsl image repository than a one for Swedes, Norwegian, Danes and the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland (Germans would hardly be helped by titles or texts in Swedish). As far as I have understood over the years, the more you use English as a lingua franca on Wikimedia Commons, the more used it will be as a repository. Boberger (talk) 23:59, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

The Germans unapologetically names all German park categories by their native German names (see for example Parks in Schleswig-Holstein. I live in south Denmark, not far from the German border and regularly do edits in northern Germany. I also regularly see Germans do edits in Denmark. Based on my experiences with this I strongly suspect the average German would actually find Hjo stadspark less confusing than Hjo City Park.--Hjart (talk) 07:23, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Hej @Boberger: Tack för att du bidrar med media till Wikimedia Commons. Glöm inte att Commons ska vara användbart för alla som använder Wikimedias olika projekt. Det kan bara ske om andra kan hitta dina filer.

För att hjälpa andra att hitta media som du laddar upp här bör filerna finnas på något ställe som går att hitta via kategorierna i Commons. Detta innebär att du bör placera filerna i lämpliga kategorier samt eventuellt på gallerisidor eller båda delarna. Läs gärna på om grunderna här: Commons:Kategorier.

Det som är viktigt här är att alla filer bör finna någonstans i kategoristrukturen. Det finns för närvarande många filer på Commons som inte organiserats alls eller organiserats alldeles för allmänt och ospecifikt. Du får givetvis gärna hjälpa till att organisera de filerna så att de kan hittas.

Det duger t.ex. inte att kategorisera Tomas Colbengtson som "Artists from Sweden" tillsammans med 200 andra. Han ska kategoriseras in under sitt namn i första steget. Därefter kan man ge honom övriga kännetecken (yrke, ålder, födelseort etc). Detsamma gäller naturligtvis platser, byggnader, föremål etc. Men där verkar du ha bättre koll! Floragatan, Hjo är ett bra exempel.
