Hello, Erik Frohne!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Faroe location map edit

Hi!
I saw, that you've created Faroe Islands location map. It works great of course, but now it isn't actual. Since 1 of January 2009 there are 30 not 34 communes on the Faroe Islands. I hope you'll update this map.

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Picture of the Year voting round 1 open edit

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

 1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
 2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
 3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

License of SVG Cycling Jerseys edit

Dear Erik Frohne,

You uploaded a cycling jersey SVG icon to Wikimedia Commons. Great work, thanks for that! It is the file:MaillotDinamarca.svg  .

However, the shape is exactly the same as the file:Jersey yellow.svg   that I created, and uploaded under CC-BY-SA. This means that if you create derivative works, you must

 1. credit the original creator(s), and
 2. share it under the same license

You did not credit me as the original author of the work you made a derivative of, ánd you did not use the CC-BY-SA license.

Could you make changes to the images you uploaded? You can do this very simply by adding the following lines to the icons you originally created (and removing the current license template line)

and if there is a summary table, change the line that reads |source=own with a line that reads something like

|source=own Shape based upon :file:Jersey yellow.svg by User:IIVQ

If you based this icon on another icon than File:Jersey yellow.svg, you can substitute that and credit the creator thereof as well as the authors of the work they based their work on.

With regards, IIVQ (talk) 09:24, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Dear IIVQ,
sorry for the delay, as I currently have seldom need to do an actual login to wikipedia/commons, so I didn't see your message until today.
My derivative work was created in 2009 by using the file MaillotDinamarca.PNG ( ) with Inkscape alone. The license on the PNG was given as PD to that time. As I wasn't aware (to that time) that the file was based on your work, I had chosen the same attribution (PD) for my work. Then in 2017 the SVG was changed by User:Hejsa to adjust the bright red color with Adobe Illustrator.
Now that I know of the original attribution, I changed the attribution of my file to "shape based upon MaillotDinamarca.PNG from User:Maillotero~commonswiki (which was derived from file:Jersey yellow.svg by User:IIVQ)" . Hope, that is ok for you.
