File:Steven Edward Dehler (cropped).jpg edit

File:Steven Edward Dehler (cropped).jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

File:Facetuned Aarman Touré (cropped).jpg edit

File:Facetuned Aarman Touré (cropped).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

This is a candid street shot of a woman clutching an umbrella while using a mobile phone. Please see COM:PARTYPICS. …

Why would you choose that shortcut to link to? To me, the implication is that I have indiscriminately dumped my photo album onto Commons, which I find offensive. In fact, I have uploaded just two original works to Commons.

As the filename says, the nominated photo shows a woman holding a folded umbrella to her chest, which as far as I can tell, no other photo on Commons does. The closest photo is File:Woman with umbrella under her arm (I0013299).tif, which is an old black and white photo showing a somewhat different pose.

Your nomination continued:

If ever the need arises for illustrations of umbrella-holding …

Are you actually suggesting that illustrations of umbrella-holding do not have an obvious educational use?

And finally:

… it should be easy to find or create posed photos better suited to that purpose.

Why would a posed photo be better? Brianjd (talk) 12:52, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Brianjd: 1) I chose "PARTYPICS" arbitrarily from among the shortcuts listed in that section; please be assured that I had no intention of slighting you. 2) I expect that there is greater demand for educational images of umbrellas in use than for photos of umbrellas being clutched to one's body. In this particular photo the umbrella seemed like an incidental encumbrance. 3) As a very private person myself, I would hate to find candid street shots of me on Wikimedia Commons. While COM:IDENT does not require permission for photographs taken in public places, I prefer photos taken with the consent of the person pictured if possible. 1) In that case, I suggest not including a link at all; it is sufficient to say that the file has no realistic educational use. 2) and 3) Perhaps so. That information should have been in the nomination. Brianjd (talk) 07:07, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Warning edit

Hi Genericusername57. I noticed that you've made multiple malformed deletion requests linking to Commons:Deletion requests/Files found with "male anatomy" insource:/male anatomy/i -filemime:pdf or Commons:Deletion requests/Files found with "female anatomy": omitting the year, month, and day. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 20:29, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Jeff G.: Sorry, I was attempting to follow the instructions for manually nominating a series of files. I am accustomed to the English Wikipedia, where a bot adds timestamps automatically. Genericusername57 (talk) 20:38, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
