Categorization edit

When uploading files, please only use the most specific categories. For example, files in Category:Visalia, California should not be in the broader categories of Category:Tulare County, California or Category:California.

Additionally, please be careful what license you select:

Feel free to ask me if you have any questions about categories or licensing! Pi.1415926535 (talk) 16:45, 20 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Notification about possible deletion edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Warning edit

Despite being warned, you have continued to upload files with incorrect licenses and improper categorization. This is not acceptable behavior, especially because Commons takes copyright violations very seriously. If you continue to upload files without proper licenses and categorization, I will block you from uploading. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:08, 24 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please do not block me from uploading, I am still somewhat new to wikipedia but I know these pictures (Chris Evans Visalia Home and Chris Evans Redwood Ranch) are public domain and can prove it. It has been found in several different books that are more than 70 years old. I will try uploading the same photos with the proper source. The Kasota picture from 2002 was an accident and I will make sure to follow the guidelines in the future. I understand Commons takes copyright very seriously and I have no intention on violating that. Thank you for your help.Jamievontersch (talk) 03:12, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
If there are any other issues with images that I have uploaded please let me know, I am not trying to get blocked from uploading. Thank you. Jamievontersch (talk) 03:12, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
If you are going to upload images with claims that they are in the public domain, you need to be very familiar with the actual requirements of the public domain licenses you are using. The 70-year rule is after the death of the author, not after publication, and is only applicable when the author's identity and death date (or year) are known. Commons:Hirtle chart has a detailed guide to what PD licenses are applicable in what scenario. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 22:51, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok I will be sure to be careful of this from now on, thank you. Can I also make a request if possible? I accidentally posted onto an article I wanted to add onto. I undid the revision but I wanted to delete the revision history if possible and noticed that it was only possible for administrators to do this. The article is Chris Evans (outlaw) and the revisions were from October 25. Hoping this can be done. Thank you. Jamievontersch (talk) 03:06, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I assume you mean this revision? That's on the English Wikipedia (enwiki), not on Commons; I'm only an administrator on Commons and don't have any advanced permissions on enwiki. Looking at the revision deletion criteria, it's unlikely that there's a need to delete the revision - it doesn't seem to contain any copyrighted text or harmful material.
