Hello, Kokorik!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:Logo-zsbd-żywiec.jpg. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:IV_station_of_the_way_of_the_cross_on_the_Matyska.JPG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

This media was probably deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Transneptunowe2.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (:File:Transneptunowe2.jpg).

If you created the content yourself, enter Own as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, GFDL or Cc-zero to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Use of a photograph of yours outside Wikipedia edit

Dear Kokorik:

I am glad to inform you that I have decided to use a picture of yours in order to illustrate my Website and other commercial projects.

The picture was taken from Wikimedia Commons, and as I understand it, you uploaded that picture in that server with the intent to share it with others.

Of course, due credit is given and a link to your license is included.

The resulting Webpage is the following:

http://www.sites.google.com/site/aldoloup/articulos/el-gran-cometa-que-casi-nos-lo-perdimos

The same page in English and other languages will follow.

I want to thank you for the opportunity to use that picture. However, if you feel in any way that my use of your picture does not fit into your original intentions, please let me know it as soon as possible.

In case you are not the sole and only copyright owner of the specified material so that these copyrights are shared with others, I would appreciate any information you can provide me about anybody else I should contact.

Sincerely yours,

A.L.

P.S.: Please excuse me for writing you to your Wikipedia User Talk Page, as I have been unable to find any other contact information in order to reach you. You can reach me via my Copyright Notice & Disclaimer page.

Commercial use of a photograph credited to Gunther II and uploaded by Kokorik edit

Dear Kokorik:

As I understand it, you represent the interests of Gunther II in matters related to his photograph of the comet C/2006 P1 (McNaught) as published in Wikimedia Commons.

It is my understanding that Mr. Gunther II agrees with the license provided in that page, granting the right to make commercial use of that photograph authored by him.

I want to thank you for facilitating this agreement, and of course, I want to thank Mr. Gunther II for allowing this use of his work.

Once again, if you or Mr. Gunther II have any issue or complaint about my use of Mr. Gunther II's work, please let me know it immediately.

As you may understand, this is a very serious matter to me, as I don't want to have any trouble in the future regarding any copyright retained or not released as per the legal rights that Mr. Gunther II, or you as his representative, may claim.

Of course, I am acting in good faith in the firm belief that you have the power to grant me this non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-time-limited, worldwide license to publish, reprint and distribute that photograph commercially.

Thank you very much and thanks very much to Mr. Gunther II.

Sincerely yours,

Aldo Loup

aldoloup@hotmail.com

P.S.: Right now I know you both only by your pseudonyms, but if you both agree, I would like to credit the photograph with your real names.

Comet C/2006 P1 (McNaught). Image taken from North Head at Sydney Harbour, Sydney, Australia on the evening of January 16, 2007 edit

Dear Kokorik:

Please forgive me for writing you once again, related to the photograph published here:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c9/Comet_mcnaught_sydney_2007.jpg

It is not my intention to annoy you with repeating communications, but as you already know, I want to use that photograph in commercial publishing projects.

Right now I have established a link between the photograph and the commercial webpage of mine, available here:

http://www.naturapop.com/articulos/el-gran-cometa-que-casi-nos-lo-perdimos

With this technical arrangement no reproduction is taking place and no file is being transferred. But in the future I would like to actually copy that file in order to publish it commercially by my own means, in Spanish, English, Portuguese and other languages.

Unfortunatelly, I have had some negative experiences with the "Creative Conmmons" and similar free licenses (people backing from the free-commercial-use of the license, vandalism concerning the true author of the photograph, etc.)

Therefore, much to my regret, I am forced to ask you and/or Mr. Gunther II a written statement granting me, if you and/or Mr. Gunther II so wish, your permision to reproduce, royalty-free, in a non-exclusive, non-time-limited, worldwide fashion, the photograph that you credit to Gunther II. I will also consider a valuable information the true name of Gunther II, if he wishes to disclose it.

I am hereby asking you and Mr. Gunther II your kind permission to reproduce and distribute that photograph in my printed book, in an electronic version of my book and in other associated mass distribution media, for example my aforementioned Internet Website. Please note and let Mr. Gunther II know that these are commercial ventures. Of course and as expected, full credit will be given where it is due and appropriate copyright claims or notices related to that photograph will be included.

Once again, please excuse me for stretching your patience and the patience of Mr. Gunther II, whatever his true name, but I would really be glad if I could count with your kind written permission and the permission of Gunther II. Thank you very much for your and Mr. Gunther II's diligent attention.

Sincerely yours,

Aldo Loup.

I will be awaiting your written reply or Mr. Gunther II written reply at my personal e-mail address: aldoloup@hotmail.com

P. S.: In case Mr. Gunther II, whatever his true name, is not the sole and only copyright owner of the requested material so that these copyrights are shared with others, or if you do not have the legal power to grant this permission on his behalf, I would appreciate any information you can provide me about anybody else I should contact.
