Tip: Categorizing images edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]][[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hello. Thank you for uploading Image:Comet Arend-Roland 1957.jpg, however the license that you have uploaded it under has been deprecated. Please could you select a new free license that describes the rights of the image correctly? If you are not able to do this, the image will be deleted in 7 days.

Commercial use of a photograph credited to Gunther II and uploaded by Kokorik edit

As I understand it, you represent the interests of Gunther II in matters related to his photograph of the comet C/2006 P1 (McNaught) as published in Wikimedia Commons.
It is my understanding that Mr. Gunther II agrees with the license provided in that page, granting the right to make commercial use of that photograph authored by him.
I want to thank you for facilitating this agreement, and of course, I want to thank Mr. Gunther II for allowing this use of his work.
Once again, if you or Mr. Gunther II have any issue or complaint about my use of Mr. Gunther II's work, please let me know it immediately.
As you may understand, this is a very serious matter to me, as I don't want to have any trouble in the future regarding any copyright retained or not released as per the legal rights that Mr. Gunther II, or you as his representative, may claim.

It is not my intention to annoy you with repeating communications, but as you already know, I want to use that photograph in commercial publishing projects.

With this technical arrangement no reproduction is taking place and no file is being transferred. But in the future I would like to actually copy that file in order to publish it commercially by my own means, in Spanish, English, Portuguese and other languages.
Unfortunatelly, I have had some negative experiences with the "Creative Conmmons" and similar free licenses (people backing from the free-commercial-use of the license, vandalism concerning the true author of the photograph, etc.)
Therefore, much to my regret, I am forced to ask you and/or Mr. Gunther II a written statement granting me, if you and/or Mr. Gunther II so wish, your permision to reproduce, royalty-free, in a non-exclusive, non-time-limited, worldwide fashion, the photograph that you credit to Gunther II. I will also consider a valuable information the true name of Gunther II, if he wishes to disclose it.
I am hereby asking you and Mr. Gunther II your kind permission to reproduce and distribute that photograph in my printed book, in an electronic version of my book and in other associated mass distribution media, for example my aforementioned Internet Website. Please note and let Mr. Gunther II know that these are commercial ventures. Of course and as expected, full credit will be given where it is due and appropriate copyright claims or notices related to that photograph will be included.
