First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Bonjour,

Je suis son fils, c'est moi qui touche les droits d'auteur. Je ne peux vous envoyer d'extrait du livret de famille, je ne sais pas ce que cela deviendrait.

Vous tapez Tugdual de Langlais sur Google et vous verrez ma photo et la mention que je suis son fils !

J'espère vous avoir convaincu et que les images Erwan, Lunaire, Sainte Anne seront remises en place si elle ont été enlevées (ce que je crains) et que je ne serai pas considéré comme ayant fait une infraction.

Bonsoir,

Merci d'attendre un peu car j'ai un autre avis comme quoi il me manquerait des licences. Je n'ai pas encore pointé.

Certaines choses sont tirées de livres qui ont plus de 100 ans et dont j'ai acheté les pages chez un antiquaire qui à mon étonnement les dépeçait ! Pour les vendre séparément. En plus ces gravures ont 200 ans.

Je suis un peu débordé en ce moment. J'ai sous les yeux Beaumarchais. J'ai le livre complet, imprimé en 1874, qui a en page de garde le portrait que j'ai mis. Il n'y a plus de droits après 70 ans de la mort de l'auteur... Alors pourquoi me demander des licences ?

Pay attention to licensing

Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.

File:Bulletin an-1 couv.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file.

If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.
