File:Tucker Durkin Lacrosse.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

edit

File:Premier Lacrosse League.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Answer to your question

edit

Hello Laxer921, I will answer here to your question about the logo. The problem about the image is related to copyright. When you uploaded the picture you selected the license "cc-by-sa-4.0" for this image. However you had not the power to chose this license because you are not the author of the image (I supposed you cropped the image from the website of the Premier Lacrosse League but even if you had drawned again the logo the situation would not be different because the copyright holder remains the original author). In fact to upload the image you need the written permission of the Premier Lacrosse League. However there is a chance there is a possibility that the logo can remain. In fact what I have written before it is valid if the image is subject to copyright protection. If the image it is very simple and shows no creativity it is not subject to copyright protection; in this case, in the part of the license you can use the tag {{PD-textlogo}}. You should also add the tag {{Trademark}} to show that it is a trademark (and do it has some restriction about the use of the image, but this is another question). Look at this image for example File:Inside Lacrosse logo.svg

However, as you can imagin, the definition of "simple image" it is very subjective and also vary in the different country of the world (the League of which we are talking about it is in the United States, I suppose). Since I don't know very what it is the level of the threshold of originaly in United States I opened the deletion request (and I did not change the license tag) in order to leave someone with more knowledge of these topics to judge what to do. Seeing the examples shown in page Commons:Threshold of originality I can suppose that there is a good chance that the logo will be kept but I can not guarantee it. When the deletion request will be evaluated (it can takes a 1-2 weeks but also a longer time, depending on the availability of users) all these question will be considered.

If the logo will be considered too complex (and so you it will have been deleted) it can not be hosted on Commons without he permission of the League; however you can try another way. The English Wikipedia allows in some cases the upload of image subject to copyright under the US doctrine of fair use. So you may upload locally on English Wikipedia the image, but before doing that you have better to inform about these thing on the English Wikipedia pages (I don't write on the English Wikipeida so I did not know exactely their policies).

Another thing (related to File:Tucker Durkin Lacrosse.jpg). The problem with that images was the fact that there are no proof that the the image was relased with the license that you used (on the website there was written anything about these but only a general "all right reserved" or something like that). I saw that you asked the undeletion saying that you had received the permission to upload from the author. In this case (when you upload a picture that you didn't take and/or a picture already published), in order to be hosted on Commons, it must be sent a e-mail to confirm the will of the author to publish with the choosen license. It is all explained here Commons:OTRS.

I hope that infos will help you. Greetings, --Civitas13 (talk) 08:44, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
