Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. Turkish maps in Kurdish edit

MikaelF - thank you for your comments. Since the maps are public domain, if you take them and change them they become yours... if you want to give credit for my maps as an original source, simply put a small edit in the summary that you got the original maps from me (or something like that). Good luck, and let me know if you need any assistance. Rarelibra 12:48, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey there - you can find a map I created with the counties of Iran here. I will post something for Iraq, and you can find Syria here. Rarelibra (talk) 13:32, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, MikaelF!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Unfortunately, I cannot write in Turkish, but as far as I understand, Dûrzan is making a point here and taking up an issue, I am feeling very uncomfortable about, too, which is you changing Kurdish toponyms into Turkish, because the English Wikipedia does so or because the official toponomy in Turkey is in Turkish since the 50s or 60s and the original place names were outlawed. You are an experienced user in Commons and have been helpful in the Kurdish Wikipedia, and it would be interesting with your help to find a formula which keeps both Turkish, Kurdish, Zaza, Assyrian, Arabic users content and comfortable. There is no need of imposing an official Turkish policy upon Wikipedia. I would suggest a double toponym when they exist, because this is a reality in Eastern Turkey and Kurdistan as a whole. I don't care which name come forst or last, just equal. In the Kurdish Autonomy in Federal Iraq frequently you travel through villages with double or triple toponyms, as they are mixted, and there is no confusion about it. For instance, it could be like this: Ewîna-Sürgücü, Ewîna (Sürgücü), Ewîna/Sürgücü, or viceversa. Please try to suggest something better than how it is now, in order to make Commons and Wikipedia more plurilingual and independent from this or that country's official policy. Sorry my English is not so good. Thanks. Silav (greetings) --MikaelF (talk) 15:41, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
:Unfortunately, Dûrzan's last edits are considered as vandalism . I only prefer to use names in printed materials in English language. The important is availability for many users, not only Kurdish users. Takabeg (talk) 00:13, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi. As for the availability for as many users as possible, this is my intention too, and including Kurdish users, now referring to adding place names in Kurdish to categories. There is no exclusiveness about this. Around Amed/Diyarbakir there are many bilingual road signs, and this doesn't make the local drivers more confused than those in Istanbul. And this could be a model for categorizing in Commons as well. I propose double toponyms, and look forward to hearing some proposals how this can be done, as nobody wants to be tagged as a vandalist! --MikaelF (talk) 10:03, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's a kind of sophism. Because most of all Kurdish users know names in English sources. Takabeg (talk) 11:26, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open edit

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Thanks for not replying the above.

Two questions: 1. Can you tell me what is the "Kurdish plan" that the banned sockpuppeteer Moalswoo was referring on your talk page in Kurdish WP and with references to me? 2. File:Dayikên Şemiyê.jpg: Don't you know that when you take the photo of another photo, it is not your "own work"? I will request the deletion of that file.

Best. --E4024 (talk) 17:41, 19 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

In reply to your message today edit

  • @E4024
  • I wish not to start an edit war with you.
  • Unfortunately, I don't speak very much Turkish.
  • I received a message on my talk page from Moalswoo, whose name I have never seen before. This is something you will have to sort out with him/her.
  • The photograph is mine, and I have the negative, I didn't have a digital camera at that time, as most people. The majority of the mothers were Kurdish, with much respect also for those who were not, and if you wish to be more informed about this matter, I recommend you to read this book: Berat Günçikan (1996). Cumartesi Anneleri. Iletishim, Istanbul.
  • You are overreacting, calm down. --MikaelF (talk) 18:03, 19 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
