Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Re: File:JamesMylne.jpg deletion

I'm the author of the wikipedia article from which the above file was deleted. I just finished dealing with a rash of deletions from the same article, only to be faced with more deletions. This is becoming more than an annoyance, and is also a source of frustration to the artist himself who's taken his time and provided free content to the project! I'd like it to be firmly & finally noted somewhere among you Commons-folk: PLEASE PUT A HOLD ON DELETIONS RELATED TO ALL JAMES MYLNE ARTWORK/PHOTOS, and REINSTATE ALL RECENTLY DELETED FILES! As the person who solicited the images to illustrate the article, I feel a certain duty to assist James Mylne in the reinstatement of his images. All recent deletions were handled sloppily without proper notification either to me directly or the artist himself, as I'd already noted to Commons mere weeks ago. PUT THEM BACK as speedily as you deleted them, please. You may already find that Mr. Mylne has submitted the proper confirmations to OTRS; if he hasn't, the confirmations will surely come swiftly. I requested the deletion of two of the images, user James Mylne uploaded: File:JamesMylne.jpg and File:Drawing of Jerri hall by James Mylne in Evening Standard Newspaper.jpg, because of the reasons given on the pages Commons:Deletion requests/File:James Mylne.jpg and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Drawing of Jerri hall by James Mylne in Evening Standard Newspaper.jpg. User James Mylne was informed on his talk page, since he is the uploader, and could have - on the two mentioned pages with the deletion request - contributed his view to a discussion, whether the pictures should be deleted or not. He didn't respond, nor did any other user like for example you, so there was no discussion. An administrator for Wikimedia Commons found the reasons, given for the deletion, adequate and deleted the files after about a week. This is the usual process. I didn't see a problem with the two still existing images James Mylne uploaded (File:Polo Pony, ballpoint biro drawing.jpg and File:McQueen ballpoint biro drawing art.jpg), since no other copyright holder but him, the drawer, seems to be involved there. But this was not the case with the two pictures, that were deleted on my request, because the OTRS permission was insufficient, meaning the permission was not legitimate. --Miss-Sophie (talk) 12:19, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

(by James Mylne) Hi Sophie. for the file: 'File:JamesMylne.jpg' I have been given permission to use that image by the photographer Danfung Dennis himself via email. I did forward this email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org 2 days ago, I included his personal email address for verification by you/wiki-commons. I don't know what else I can do in this case. If there is something (hopefully something straightforward), please let me know. I'll also check the OTRS noticeboard. Thanks. James

Hi James, I can't undelete the picture, I'm just a "normal" user, but I will right now inform the administrator, who deleted it on my request, on his talk page and ask what should be done in this case (see here). I don't know about the best way to handle an undeletion request, since I have never been in this situation before. If you provided a legitimate permission by Danfung Dennis, an undeletion should be possible.

I came across your uploads, as the newspaper picture with your Jerry Hall drawing (which looks like a photo, quite impressive, I also especially admire the horse drawing) lay in the category of images related to the Rolling Stones and I sometimes add Rolling Stones pictures to this category (and later Wikipedia articles). I had a closer look, also on the other pictures by this uploader (you), and decided on a deletion request in the two cases because of the given reasons.

I saw, you also have a Flickr account, so you might find the following an interesting option for future uploads to Wikimedia: Often I browse Flickr for good photos for Wiki. If I find an adequate one, I ask the Flickr user, if he/she would publish it under a free Commons license. It's easier and faster to upload an image from Flickr to Wikimedia Commons than to do it via OTRS permission. Therefor you have to change the owner settings for the respective picture in your Flickr account (option "edit" under "owner settings" in the right column next to the picture on Flickr). Choose the Attribution Share Alike license from the appearing menu. If you do it this way, no additional written permission to OTRS is needed, for only you, the owner of the account, can do this licensing of your Flickr images, nobody else, so it's obvious you agree to the given license and subsequent usage by other people. When uploading it to Wikimedia Commons afterwards, choose the "it is a work from Flickr" option.

BUT, to not harm any copyrights by doing it via Flickr: You have to be the only copyright holder, meaning this procedure is only legitimate for your own work - photos you took yourself, that don't show the work of other copyright holders. So this would for example be applicable, if you took a picture/scanned in one of your drawings and uploaded it to Flickr. But it would not be the right way for photos by other people (like Danfung Dennis), even if you included them in your Flickr photo stream and the copyright holder agreed to that. Wiki doesn't know, what the copyright holder said to you about licensing, the correct way in such a case would still be the OTRS permission. --Miss-Sophie (talk) 16:37, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

 Comment The above mentioned images can only be restored if/when sufficient OTRS permission is confirmed. If permission has been sent, questions about the progress of processing can be asked at the OTRS noticeboard. As for the deletions, they were done properly and were completely justified. The proper notification was given at User talk:James Mylne. On Commons we need definite proof from any and all copyright holders of images that they've been released under a free license. The OTRS process can take time, as OTRS volunteers are very busy. Please be patient, and they'll get this figured out soon. INeverCry 18:35, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Any progress which can be reported about the above? At the very least, permission for the photo-of-James-Mylne must be in your hands by now, no? I haven't heard from James directly this week but I just thought I'd check-in with you myself; I'd like to ba able to re-insert the photo of James as part of an upcoming wiki article revision which has been on standby while awaiting reinstatement. ?Please help me DELETE a file...

Hi there Miss Sophie, sorry to be a bother but I hope you can help me with this: I was going through the procedure of uploading an image to Commons for the express purpose of compiling an instructional list for a new editor I'm mentoring at Wikipedia, and I was using an anonymous art-photo I'd taken, but... I didn't realize the last-step would result in the actual upload! Meaning: I've uploaded a completely useless file of artwork which isn't even mine. I posted a "delete" request somewhere which I guess was the wrong place (nothing has happened in a week; I think its a "merge" request page?)... Would be so kind as tohelp me get that file deleted?? Hi! I think that in your case a so called speedy deletion request instead of the regular nomination for deletion (the tool for which is to be found on the left under "Toolbox") is the appropriate way to go. The criteria for sppedy deletion are listed here: Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion, with "accidental creation" under "General reasons" and "Apparent copyright violation" under "File" being adequate reasons. It seems the speedy deletion template Template:Copyvio would be the right choice. You have to insert {{Copyvio |1= |source= }} on top of the Commons page with the file and then to write your reason for the deletion request after 1=, as is described on the template page. And you should sign your given reason.

As I found in your user contributions, you requested the deletion at the wrong place on Commons:History merging and splitting/Requests, don't know, how you landed there. --Miss-Sophie (talk) 11:41, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Dear Miss-Sophie,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.
