File:Scan North York Moors Title Page crop.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

I have been in contact with the surviving heirs of the author (2 of his daughters) who have granted permission to use and quote any of Alfred John Brown's work.
- they have to confirm that via COM:OTRS I'm afraid. When was the book published - might it be out of copyright now? --Herby talk thyme 18:09, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Copyright lasts basically for 70 years btw. --Herby talk thyme 18:13, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
Not quite true about the 70yrs. This title page will in fact be the copyright of the company as stated; in the case of this page the only copyright will be the layout of the page; in England, book titles, names (including company names) and street addresses cannot be copyright. So the only copyright that would have existed would have been on the layout & printing of the page. The company named as the copyright holder did in fact go bust many years ago - in any event, in English law, copyright held by companies for design, printing and layout of printed works expires after 25 years. The edition of the book I have provided a copy of the title page from, is undated but an independent source gives the date of publication of the 2nd edition, which this is, as 1959 (the first edition was 1958). Therefore the image is not copyright in English law. The only copyright that exists is that created by me scanning it.
- Not really true - it is seventy years after the death of the artist probably. Who was the artist - the author? - and when did he die? --Herby talk thyme 07:17, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Additionally you do need to change the source field on this (& the other covers). You are not the creator of the artwork. Obviously the other uploads may well be subject to deletion depending on the year of death of the creator of the artwork. --Herby talk thyme 07:52, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
Notification about possible deletion
editSome contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
