Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hallo Veleius, hast du eine Idee, was das da für eine Kapelle ist? Nachdem jetzt klar ist, dass es sich nicht um die Heissenbergerkapelle handelt? Dann könnte ich die Datei auf einen sinnvolleren Namen verschieben.

BTW: Danke für die vielen Fotos der Obersteiermark, da geht ja nett was weiter. Ich möchte dich bitten, die Bilder, die du hochlädst, auch zu kategorisieren. Erleichtert die Auffindbarkeit und spart mir das Nachputzen. Standardmäßig und weil es der Upload Wizard nicht besser weiß, werden alle Denkmäler in Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Austria einsortiert. Das ist zwar nicht falsch, aber zu ungenau, die Bilder sollten in der jeweiligen Gemeindekategorie landen, für den Ort Veitsch z.B. in Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Veitsch. Dazu musst du beim Upload die standardmäßig angebotene Kategorie löschen (kleines x rechts oben) und die entsprechende Kategorie für die passende Gemeinde einfügen. Beim Tippen werden dir existierende Kategorien zur Auswahl angeboten, als z.B. Cultural heritage monuments in V listet alle Gemeinden mit V, Veitsch, Velden, Villach. Die meisten dieser Gemeindekategorien sind bereits angelegt.

Dazu kommt, dass jedes Denkmal auch eine Kirche, ein Marterl, eine Schule, ein Gemeindeamt usw. ist, und daher in die passende Unterkategorie von Category:Churches in Austria, Category:Wayside shrines in Austria, Category:Schools in Austria, Category:Municipal offices in Austria usw. einsortiert werden sollte. Habe den Namen dieser Kapelle bisher noch nicht herausgefunden. Sie steht neben der Brunnalmstraße, vielleicht kann man sie einstweilen in Wegkapelle Brunnalmstraße o.s.ä. umbenennen. Danke f.d. mehrere Bilder zu einem denkmalgeschützten Objekt

Hallo Veleius, hättest du zu dieser Collage auch noch die Einzelbilder? Für die Bebilderung der Denkmallisten sind Collagen nicht besonders günstig, da sie schlecht weiterverwendbar sind (z.B. in einem Artikel über die Kirche), schlecht beschreibbar und kategorisierbar sind und im konkreten Fall sehr klein. Eine Commons-Kategorie mit mehreren Bildern zu einem Objekt ist die bessere Lösung. Bitte keine Bilder überschreiben

Hallo Veleius, du hast (soweit ich es mitbekommen habe) zwei Bilder mit anderen überschrieben. File:Pfarrkirche_in_Turnau.JPG und File:Schloss_Neuberg.jpg. In einem Fall sogar ein Bild, das von einem anderen User für ein WLM hochgeladen wurde. Bitte in Zukunft nicht mehr machen. Für die beiden Bilder habe ich administrative Hilfe zur Aufspaltung angefordert, falls dich noch andere Fälle drücken, bitte unter Commons:SPLIT#History_splitting eintragen. Arbeiterhaus Rittisstraße in Krieglach

Hallo Veleius, habe dein Bild File:Arbeiterhaus Rittisstr..JPG wieder auf den alten Zustand zurückgesetzt. Es wäre doch schade um die historische Aufnahme. Eine neue Version eines Bildes liegt nur in dann vor, wenn das Bild z.B. mit Bildbearbeitungssoftware verändert wurde. Und da nur dann, wenn auszuschließen ist, dass die alte Version noch sinnvoll verwendet werden kann. Wenn du eine neue Version hochladest, dann musst du den Servercache leeren (purge auf commons) und deinen Browsercache. Sonst kann es lange dauern, bis die neue Version sichtbar wird. lg --Herzi Pinki (talk) 13:52, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Hinweis zur Teilnahme an WikiDaheim

Hallo Veleius, ich habe gesehen, dass du Bilder hochgeladen hast, die auch für WikiDaheim von Interesse sein könnten, z.B. Brunnenhaus WN.jpg. Danke erst mal für die Bilder. Damit die Bilder an unserem Fotowettbewerb teilnehmen können, müssen sie mit der Commons-Vorlage WikiDaheim und dem entsprechenden Thema (topic) gekennzeichnet werden. Dies geschieht automatisch, wenn du die Bilder über unsere App https://Wikidaheim.at oder über die diversen Listen (Denkmallisten, Naturdenkmallisten, Public Art Listen, etc. in der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia) hochlädst. Bei anderen Upload-Wegen musst du selbst dafür sorgen, dass das Bild mit den richtigen Bausteinen markiert ist, um am Wettbewerb teilzunehmen.
