Thanks for uploading File:Thetheringautism.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Sorry! I haven't figured out how to upload and tag the file correctly. Should I add the following text to the file?

{{Zipster969|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}

Zipster969 (talk) 14:32, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, seems you forgot to add a license template. You might leave out "GFDL", as it is no longer considered a useful license for images. --Túrelio (talk) 14:33, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

So, perhaps the following?

{{Zipster969|cc-by-sa-all}

Could I do:

{{Zipster969 please link to pawsitivityservicedogs.com|cc-by-sa-all} Or will that link-to attribution be obvious if people using the file go to my page at Zipster969 ?

Thank you for this advice, by the way!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Zipster969 (talk • contribs)

I think the correct syntax in {{cc-by-sa-all|1=credit-text}.
Personally, I would recommend not to use "Zipster969 please link to pawsitivityservicedogs.com" for the prescribed credit, but prefer something like "Zipster969 - pawsitivityservicedogs.com". In addition you might write into the permission-field of the description "please link to pawsitivityservicedogs.com". The latter would then not be legally mandatory (part of the license terms), but might still be honored by good-faith re-users. --Túrelio (talk) 14:44, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Did I do attribute this file correctly? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Service_dog_at_the_doctor%27s_office_01.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zipster969 (talk • contribs)

You don't need to attribute your own work, re-users need to do that. In regard to whether you choose to correct syntax/way for the required attribution, see my above comment. --Túrelio (talk) 14:46, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I think I have it correct now: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thetheringautism.jpg If this is correct, I will make sure all images are this way. Zipster969 (talk) 14:56, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oh, no. You really didn't get it. The string "credit-text" was of course only a dummy-text, which needs to be replaced by the exact words, which you want re-users to use as the credit. In the 2nd and 3rd line of my 2nd comment I gave you my recommendation what to use as credit in your case. --Túrelio (talk) 15:08, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Argh, I'm so sorry. Now this is correct? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thetheringautism.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zipster969 (talk • contribs)

Not really, as now the author-entry in the image description and the credit-entry differ. In addition, I expressedly recommended you not to put the words "please link to ..." into the credit. Of course, as it is your work, you can still do so, but you may meet resistance from other users on Commons, as the words "please link to " are considered to be promotional. The credit-text should only contain the (real or artist's) name of the author and eventually an "attribution party", which in your case might be "pawsitivityservicedogs.com". So, the credit should contain your real name or your username (Zipster969) and in addition could contain "pawsitivityservicedogs.com". --Túrelio (talk) 15:22, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

You are the best, thank you. I definitely want to do everything the right way!

Is this now correct, or should I do

Author as Zipster969, pawsitivityservicedogs.com

or even Tom Coleman, pawsitivityservicedogs.com

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thetheringautism.jpg Zipster969 (talk) 15:27, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

This is acceptable, as are the 2 other credit versions. However, you need to make an informed decision, as with the current credit your images will be credited only to "pawsitivityservicedogs.com", not also to Zipster969. So, in case your website disappears or has its name changed ... --Túrelio (talk) 15:40, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I guess it's okay the way it is. Wow, thank you for your assistance (and your patience...) :-) Should we mark the image as correctly attributed?
