Notification about possible deletion edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Image removal edit

Hi Herby,

please take notice that the image posted were produced by me, even if the subject is under SpaceX copyright, I have my own copyright (like any other artits) regarding the realization of the artwork. If you see the Dragon 2 page there is already an artwork of mine by 2014.

I ask you to not remove such images, since they were produced by me and released for free for illustration and educational purposes.

Sincerely Giuseppe De Chiara

P.S. I do not understand why also my page was removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Archipeppe68 (talk • contribs) 15:19, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

OK
Digging around I guess you had a previous account? The one that uploaded the earlier image? If so that explains some of it. However you created a user page that appeared not to be yours - that raised alarm bells. User page is restored and please accept my apologies.
As to the Spacex images generally. The copyright would depend on your employment contract with SpaceX as far as I know. Either way to host these images would require authorisation via COM:OTRS. I'll remove the deletion request one for now anyway. You can reply here and I will see it and respond as best I can. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 15:25, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

No matter Herby, the problem is that I cannot access to my previous account, I tried to restore password but the page lead me to create a new profile and it raised the alarm, so my bad forgive me. If it is possible I would appreciate if I can get back my old access and take on my latest artworks. I'm not a SpaceX empoyee, so I do not have any contract with them, as for all others artworks I realized my work is based upon image publicly released. I would like to continue to contribute to Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons if my job would help readers to better understand topic.

Sorry for the disguise.

No problem - I'll help where I can.
I would think they you should be able to recover the old account if you have access to the email address which you used when you created it? Otherwise no one can access that account now.
As to the images - they are good and useful - the best way to go (I think) is for you to confirm licensing using COM:OTRS yourself. The instructions are fairly straightforward. Best --Herby talk thyme 15:56, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

If created solely by Giuseppe (which considering the many many other images created by him, I have little doubt), these images would not be copyrighted to SpaceX, as spacecraft still fall under the functional design consideration the same as automobiles. The only questionable part would be the SpaceX and Dragon logos, which are almost certainly small enough to be considered de minimis. And even then, they could be safely removed if ultimately desired and still preserve the value of the images themselves. Huntster (t @ c) 22:51, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Huntster, company logos alone are, obviously, covered by copyright. While once inserted in a specific context, e.g. an aircraft or spacecraft, they are part of the whole stuff so no matter at all with them. In my career as aerospace illustrator I helped to illustrate dozens of books by various authors about aircrafts, they were often full of logos and never had any trouble with related companies that (at limit) see this kind of stuff as a way good publicity. Not counting my latest book, co-realized with NASA historian Michael Gorn:

https://www.amazon.com/Spacecraft-Iconic-Rockets-Shuttles-Satellites/dp/0760354189/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=de+chiara+spacecraft&qid=1551801839&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spell

it contanins hundreds of artworks about spacecrafts and a lot of them has logos, a good number also by SpaceX and no one has regret it. The same happens for all the other illustrator and artists a quick search on google will show you a good number of aircraft drawings (for instance) each one with their markings and logos.
