Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Your mail
editHello BoelensLeon, I hope you don't mind me answering your mail here. Unless the issue is confidential, it's generally better to discuss such questions and all Commons-related topics directly here on Commons - this gives other editors a chance to chime in or offer additional advice later:
- If you would like to freely license a published photo on Commons, you need to verify that you are the copyright owner (or represent him), and grant a suitable free license. The verification process and an example email template are available at Commons:OTRS. Another quick point: in my opinion the photograph isn't really optimal for an encyclopedic article. It is an idealized, highly professional atelier photo (I am assuming from a press photo shoot), but it's not really a natural image of Mr. Klaver. I'd recommend to choose a less "polished" more realistic image (maybe from an actual event or something similar). Anyway, an alternative image choice is just an optional recommendation. Please let me know, if you need more help with the OTRS process itself (or you can ask for advice from other editors at Commons:Village pump/Copyright). Best regards. Response
editSince I haven't the foggiest on how these 'user talk pages' are supposed to work, I'll just put it here. I've contacted the photographer and he has send an e-mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with his permission to use this photo. Also I've renamed the photo to JesseKlaver.jpg. Do you reckon this'll be sufficient?

- Hello, just putting new sections at the end of the talkpage is fine, or you can add a reply at the bottom of an existing section / topic if you want to respond to an existing message. To your question: a mail should be fine assuming it contains a free license statement and some kind of reference to the image in question. The mail will be reviewed by an experienced OTRS-volunteer (not me). If it's OK, the image will be tagged accordingly in a while (the process is usually a bit backlogged). If there are any questions left, the OTRS-member will reply to the photographer. But from your side you have done all you can do at the moment. GermanJoe (talk) 13:16, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- I have also tagged the image as "OTRS pending" to indicate that the mail has been sent. GermanJoe (talk) 13:23, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help, Joe! - Leon — Preceding unsigned comment added by BoelensLeon (talk • contribs) 13:29, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

File:Kauthar Bouchallikht.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)
