First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Hi,

Thanks for downloading images but please do not input a series if them, like the Sky and nature one, with the same description and categories when they were obviously showing very different sceneries : industrial building, rice paddies, power lines, et... I had to sort out them in better subcategories and the description on each image do not correspond to what is in them. I even had to ask to delete some that were obviously duplicates.

Please refrain from massive download and opt for individual upload.

If you're interested, there are auxiliary ways to contribute - which include improving Wikipedia's coverage of historic and cultural sites of Bangladesh, as well as finding existing free photos that can be shared on the Commons. While these contributions don't count towards the contest, we are still keeping track of them and they are great ways to contribute to the spirit of the project. Category for Tala Upazila and Photos of rivers

Hallo Ferdous, you have uploaded many photos like File:Cyclone aila affected area - 11.jpg. My question is: Are they taken in 2009 after Cyclone Aila, or is it a new (annual) flood in year 2011? Then it is better to start a subcategory in Category:2011 in Bangladesh and Category:Floods in Bangladesh for that photos. And the Sundarban photos, rivers and boats: Are there names of that rivers and where they are? We have some Wikipedia articles like "Betna" without photos (look to the links in en:Satkhira District), or Cat's like Category:Gorai-Madhumati River ...

And: I have started Category:Tala Upazila] yesterday for you and your friends, or people in Bangladesh who want to learn about their country.You can add some of your photos to that new "photo-box", or even subcategories. And I uploaded the boat pictures taken at koyra and dacope upazilla of khulna. I uploaded pictures via Android app which didn't allow me to add new category. That's why I select from old categories.

বাংলাদেশে উইকি লাভস আর্থ ছবি প্রতিযোগিতা পুনরায় শুরু হয়েছে!

সুপ্রিয় Ferdous! উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশ-এর আয়োজনে দেশের সংরক্ষিত প্রাকৃতিক বনাঞ্চল ও এর জীববৈচিত্র্যের ছবি নিয়ে বাংলাদেশে চতুর্থবারেরমত শুরু হয়েছে উইকিপিডিয়ার ছবি প্রতিযোগিতা উইকি লাভস আর্থ ২০২০। এক মাসব্যাপী স্থায়ী প্রতিযোগিতাটি ১ জুন, সোমবার থেকে শুরু হয়ে ৩০ জুন পর্যন্ত চলবে।

প্রতিযোগিতা পাতায় দেয়া তালিকা থেকে বাংলাদেশের প্রাকৃতিক সংরক্ষিত অঞ্চলের যেকোনো সময় তোলা ছবি জুন মাসে জমা দিয়ে প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশ নেওয়া যাবে। প্রতিযোগিতায় একজন একাধিক ছবি জমা দিতে পারবেন। প্রতিযোগিতা শেষে প্রতিটি দেশ থেকে সেরা ১০টি ছবি আন্তর্জাতিক বিচারকদের কাছে পাঠানো হবে এবং সব দেশের ছবি থেকে সেরা ১৫টি ছবি আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে বিজয়ী ঘোষণা করা হবে। বিজয়ীদের জন্য আলাদাভাবে আন্তর্জাতিক ও জাতীয় পুরস্কার রয়েছে।

Greetings from Wiki Loves Folklore India Team!

Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photography contest organized on Wikimedia Commons, this campaign invites participants to document folklore and intangible cultural heritage from different regions, including, folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, folktales, folk games, folk religion, mythology and many more. Let's help to protect and develop our intangible Indian culture, which consists of customs or active expressions that we have acquired from our ancestors and passed down to our offspring.

How to Contribute?

The dates for the submission in the photography contest on Wikimedia Commons are from 1 February to 31 March 2023. Probably you are wondering how you can take part. It’s simple: grab a camera, record an image, video or audio under the folklore theme, create a Wikimedia account and start uploading! Project Korikath welcomes you to take part in Wiki Loves Earth Bangladesh 2024!

Wiki Loves Earth (WLE) is an annual international photographic competition held throughout May and June. Project Korikath is the organizer of this year's Wiki Loves Earth in Bangladesh!
