Vaatasin. Karjala piirkondadest on eesti keeles kirjutanud prof. Ott Kurs. Ajakirjadest nii "Eesti Looduses" ja vist ka "Akadeemias". Tasuks pilk heita ka soomlaste rahvusentsüklopeediale, soomlased on karjalaste ja Karjala osas üheselt asjatundjad ja kui vaja (pole ise viimaste aastate jooksul sinna kiiganud :) ) kaarti muuta (Piirkondade nimed loomulikult KNAB-ist). Karjala kannas asub Soome lahe ja Laadoga ning Aunuse kannas Laadoga ja Äänisjärve vahel (Onega on kahjuks selge russitsism :( ). - Urmas 11:43, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Ka jõgede nimed Kem ja Svir on Karjala artikli kaardil selged russitsismid! Parem oleks kirjutada: Kemi jõgi ja Süväri jõgi. Lugupidamisega. Urmas.

Väikesed saared

Tere! Väiksetele saartele oleks kaardil hea tõmmata ümber ring (meenutab vaatajale luupi ;) ), mis tõmbaks tähelepanu ja aitaks pisikest objekti kaardilt üles leida (umbes nii nagu http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilt:Buru.gif ; saare nime märkimine (ja alusjoon selle juures) pole oluline ega otseselt vajalik ning sõltub kaardi tegija suvast). Nii oleks kaardi lugeja tähelepanu püütud kahel moel - erineva värvi kasutamisega saare märkimiseks ja "luubiga". Need kumbki eraldi aitavad samuti saart leida, kuid kaks on parem kui üks. Hi Iffcool, are you sure this picture is public domain? Do you know who is the artist of the cover image? And his he/she really for more than 70 years dead? "Kalevipoeg" was illustrated by Estonian artist Kristjan Raud who died 65 years ago. So now I am anymore not very sure about the authorship. Is is important that the artist has been dead at least for 70 years or is it measured with the artist who created the book cover or with the time that has passed from publishing the book or ...

I don't think that I have any more copies of this book (published before or after) at home and so I can't make a photo with those books in a stack (picture made about stack of books can't be under that kind of copyright?) that can be used to replace this photo.

I'm afraid "public domain" isn't applicable here. This license would only apply if the creator of the artwork is dead for 70 years or more. The text of the Kalevipoeg itself is of course public domain by age. But that doesn't mean that any art attached to it becomes itself "free". Otherwise anyone could take any text of sufficient age, illustrate it with some recent art and thereby renders it (the art) "public domain". --Zinnmann 23:46, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

My mistake that I didn't checked about that before. Previously I thought both would be in public domain now.

How do you know the people that took those pictures agreed to let anyone use them for any purpose - even commercially - completely free of charge? Did they send an e-mail to you saying so? If they did, then just forward the e-mail to the people at COM:OTRS. Wknight94 ^talk 19:29, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, they send me an e-mail but usually thous are longer conversations + with some cases there were also some conversation through other mediums (face to face, mobil, MSN etc). So it is difficult to "find the right spot" and I don't understand how you make sure that thous will be the authentic e-mails (i.e. that I haven't written them by myself)?

For example with this image: picture was taken by the wife of Tiit Made with his photo camera and send to me by Tiit so he would not need to figure out how to upload images to Commons (that last part is not a thing even I like to do). Iffcool (talk) 20:13, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

It can take a while - several days even. You can ask COM:OTRS/N. You can also change the no-permission tags to {{OTRS-pending}}. Wknight94 ^talk 14:04, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

As this OTRS takes so long (it just can't be normal) then I am not planning to deal with that thing any more. If I get pictures form autors for uploading, then I'll upload them. Siiski, siin puhul pole tegu eksisteerivate kategooriate vaid üksnes "redlinkidega". Nende kaartide kasutamisest oli juttu siin ja siin. Kas oled hiljem maa-ametiga suhelnud ja saanud midagi teada nende kaartide kasutatavusest vaba litsentsi all (CC BY-SA 3.0 all siis)?

Tegelikult seda ei saa välja lugeda jah, aga kui laadid neid kaarte massiliselt üles ja kasutad sellist üldist loainfot nagu selles malliski, siis tekitad tahes tahtmata segadust ning võib jääda mulje, et ka siinpuhul ei tule luba küsida ja sinu üles laaditud failide eeskujul hakatakse tõenäolisel teisigi üles laadima. Veebikaardi paljude staatiliste tõmmiste üleslaadimine tundub tegelikult olevat pisut ajast ja arust. Eriti arvestades, et viitame niigi paljudele kaardirakenduste seas ka maa-ameti looduskaitse kaardile ja et meil jookseb artiklite päistes OpenStreetMapi WMS, millele põhimõtteliselt on võimalik samasuguseid piire lisada (vt näiteks kaarti artikli et:Tartu päises). Ma küll ei tea praegu, kuidas see viimane täpselt käib. Iseasi muidugi, kui anda veebikaardile lisaväärtust ja teha selle põhjal oma kaart, kust näiteks on üleliigne kribu ära jäetud, siis oleks staatilise kaardi üles laadimine enam põhjendatud. Võimaldab vähendada valgustundlikkust (ISO) ja suurendada teravussügavust. Soovitan kindlasti pildistada raw formaadis, see annab hilisemaks töötluseks suurema vabaduse.

Iga endast lugupidav fotograaf tulistab raw formaadis. Kui arvuti kõvakettal on ruumi vähe, siis alternatiiviks oleks väline kõvaketas. Samuti võib pärast töötlust raw maha kustutada ja jpg alles jätta. RAW suurim eelis minu jaoks on võimalus muuta särikompensatsiooni ja valge tasakaalu. Kui sa oled jpg-s pildi natukenegi üle säritanud, siis taastada seda pole enam võimalik. RAW-s on võimalik väiksemad ülevalgustused taastada või alavalgustatud pildile säri juurde keerata. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Kruusamägi,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.

I have to admit, that I agree with deleting the image. It is not used in Estonian Wikipedia and there is some confusion about the legend, that renders it useless. Slight deference in meanings makes it very hard to translate (this in translated for eng image) and it would require a lot of work to sort this out. But thanks for letting me know!
