re: feedback request

Hello, I saw your post in the village pump. I think most of your pictures are decent, but one thing I noticed is that some of them are quite dark, for instance Image:Söögikoht Paat Viimsis.jpg, Image:Kehtna Põhikool.jpg, Image:Dun.Laoghaire 004.jpg. Also perhaps you should write more in the description, like the country where the image was taken, to make it easier for people to find the images. Another thing, if you want free image editing software, w:the gimp is supposed to be quite good, the wikipedia article writes 'It is often used as a free software replacement for Adobe Photoshop'. Thank you for you interest in this project!

You could use template {{Location}} for coordinates in hexadecimal form (I hope I'm not mistaken in the terminology :-).

You could use Google Maps for that extracting coordinates in decimal form. You just need to point onto object (or approximate point where photographer shot image) and click Link to this page. After that address bar will contain coordinates in decimal form in ll parameter, for example maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=53.675857,23.828536&spn=0.001484,0.003648&t=k&z=18&om=1. Than you just need to copy these two numbers.

I noticed you've uploaded one or more images and I thought I should turn your attention to a common error.
Please give some thought to writing a good description of uploaded images. This ensures that they can be used in more than one way. It also helps those that review and improve categories do a better job, which also ensures that images will get used in novel and interesting ways. Thanks, and happy editing! Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

New Creator Pages

Hi I noticed that you created several new creator pages, which is great - we could use much more of them. Unfortunatelly your pages require extensive cleanup, so I hope you do not mind if I point out some of the problems. It would be very helpful if you read and follow in the future the documentation of template:creator. Here some of the problems with creator:Aleksander Promet (which I already fixed):

• you used "{{Creator/AutoCategory|Aleksander Promet}}" in your template that template is used with the old creator templates which still automatically add author categories to the files. This auto-categorization causes a lot of problems and creator pages still using it are waiting to be fixed. In order fix this I had to add Category:Aleksander Promet to all the files using this creator template and than remove "{{Creator/AutoCategory|Aleksander Promet}}".
• On the creator page itself you should provide (if possible) links to the Commons galleries or wikipedia pages for the author and town names.
• In you images, you should add creator template in the author field of the information template.

Following those steps with the future uploads, and possibly cleaning up your other creator pages, will ensure others do not have to correct it. Let me know if you have any questions. --Jarekt (talk) 21:55, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Minu meelest tuleb siis kategooriale teine nimi panna, kui seal ei oodata XII Riigikogu liikmete pilte. Näiteks nende piltide tegemise aeg vastab nende isikute XII Riigikokku kuulumise ajale. Kui alamkategooriates on pilte, mis on tehtud nt kümmekond aastata tagasi ja kujutavad antud isikut kuskil konverentsil rääkimas või hoopis laulmas või tantsimas, siis see pole Riigikoguga (ja veel selle konkreetse koosseisuga) enam mitte üks raas seotud.

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Avjoska,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.
