Tip: Categorizing images edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:48, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

File:CourcouéGoogleMap.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Your uploads edit
Hi! I've noticed a few issues with your uploads that I'm hoping you can address.
- For several of the files that you have uploaded, you state that notifying you is a licensing requirement. This requirement is not compatible with Commons' licensing policy; see Commons:À propos des licences#Licences acceptables. That requirement must be removed, or the files will have to be deleted.
- Please, which ones are not compatible with Commons' licensing policy, please?
- Did you actually create File:Flag of Gibraltar with border.png, File:Flag of Malta with border.png and File:Flag of the Dominican Republic with border.png entirely yourself, including the crests?
- Yes, I've created a border on these flags.
- Do you own a lot of different cameras? The photos that you have uploaded were all photographed by you according to the file descriptions, but they were taken with at least four different cameras.
- Yes I own many.
- On File:Grattoir n°1 de La Mabilière.jpg, you make several claims about the copyright status that appear to contradict each other. If the work was published in 2010, how has its copyright expired? And what makes you the copyright holder if the copyright has expired? Please clarify.
- You are right, I explain you. This picture has been scanned from a book, where the author is dead a long time ago, and this book was distributed by BNF in public domain. I have cleaned and cut the scanned picture (reworked it) and uploaded. What is my failure?
- You claim that File:Photo du decalogue de La Mabilière.JPG, File:Poutres.jpg and File:Retranscription du décalogue de La Mabilière.jpg contain Wikimedia logotypes. They clearly don't, so why do you say that?
- Excuse-me, I don't understand what does it means. I thought it was a protection for my pictures, took by my-self. What's the problem? What can I do, please?
- Files like File:Flag of Austria with border.png don't really qualify for copyright protection, since they consist of simple geometric shapes. Please use PD-shape instead.
- Ok thanks, I've set a PD-shape on it.
Please fix and/or clarify these points. —LX (talk, contribs) 14:45, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, I see that you have been active since I wrote the above but that you have not responded, and the problems remain. Please respond. —LX (talk, contribs) 12:29, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- Excuse-me I've don't find enough time. Now it is done. Give me answers my questions, please.
- Additionally, File:Alien head.gif seems to be a copy of File:Alien head.jpg. Why are you claiming to be the author and copyright holder of LeCire's work? —LX (talk, contribs) 12:34, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- File:Alien head.gif has been reworked: the background is set transparant and some aeras have been colorised on the head top.
- Thank you very much for your help
- Kind regards Mabifixem (talk) 14:14, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- On File:Photo du decalogue de La Mabilière.JPG, you write "For licencing with Mabifixem: e-Mail contact is fx.montero@yahoo.com", on File:Retranscription du décalogue de La Mabilière.jpg, you write "Les droits sont possibles d'avoir sur demande à Mabifixem ou fx.montero@yahoo.com", and on File:Flag of Austria with border.png, File:Flag of Gibraltar with border.png, File:Flag of Great Britain with border.png, File:Flag of Luxembourg with border.png, File:Flag of Malta with border.png, File:Flag of the Dominican Republic with border.png and File:Flag of Thailand with border.png, you write "Copyrighted free use provided by sending an empty email to fx.montero@yahoo.com". As I mentioned, requiring notification is not compatible with Commons' licensing policy.
- -> OK, I just want to have a mild protection (only for knowing the used files through an e-mail) on files: File:Photo du decalogue de La Mabilière.JPG, File:Retranscription du décalogue de La Mabilière.jpg. How can I do that? Which type of protection do I set, please?
- -> - The flags -
- -> I revome the mail notification.

- Adding a border to a work that someone else created doesn't make it entirely your own work. If something is entirely your own work, it means you created it entirely on your own without relying on anyone else's work.
- -> Yes, you are right, I've work like you have say. Now I chage the rigths to PD-shape and for the source: "On a Sreenshot, by adding of a border".

- Regarding ::File:Grattoir n°1 de La Mabilière.jpg, how long ago did the author (the person who created the drawing) die? Copyright protection typically lasts 70 years after the author's death. The act of scanning doesn't make you the copyright holder, so as long as the original work is in the public domain, so is the scanned copy. You seem to be fine with this, so it's mainly a matter of making the information on the file description a bit clearer. If you give the death date of the author, I can help you with the rest.
- -> Dr. Louis Dubreuil-Chambardel is dead in 1927, I cleaned the scanned copy by gumming some graphical errors in the original image. Now the death date of the author is specified.

- Copyright by Wikimedia is not a protection for your pictures. What sort of protection were you hoping to achieve? The template states the the file contains non-free elements that are copyrighted by the Wikimedia Foundation: "Elle est (ou inclut) un des logos ou designs officiels utilisés par la Wikimedia Foundation ou par l’un de ses projets." It is intended for Wikimedia logos and screenshots like the ones you can find in Category:Copyright by Wikimedia. You should remove this tag from your uploads.

- I'm not sure the changes you've made to File:Alien head.gif are enough to be copyrightable, but in any case, you must still credit the original author. —LX (talk, contribs) 15:17, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hi again! Things are starting to look a lot better now. File:Flag of the Dominican Republic with border.png, File:Flag of Malta with border.png and File:Flag of Gibraltar with border.png are different from the other flags, because they have crests on them, which are not simple geometric shapes. To determine the licensing tag for those, we need to know where you found the file that you started with before you added the border.
- I mentioned that some of your files are incorrectly tagged with Copyright by Wikimedia, and you asked which files I meant. The answer is File:Retranscription du décalogue de La Mabilière.jpg, File:Poutres.jpg, File:La Mabilière 01.JPG and File:Photo du decalogue de La Mabilière.JPG. You can see a list of the files that you have uploaded along with their tagging in your gallery. —LX (talk, contribs) 11:14, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

File tagging File:Malheur en bus à Trudering en 1994.jpg edit
This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Malheur en bus à Trudering en 1994.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Malheur en bus à Trudering en 1994.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Copyright status: File:Airbus A350.png edit
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Airbus A350.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

File:La Mabilière 01.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
