Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Your images

Hi MoRsE. Several of the images you have uploaded have been copyrighted images from en:. Commons does not accept copyrighted image and I have deleted them. All images uploaded here must be free. When you upload images here you should provide a brief description (in sv: is OK), provide information on the source, and put the image in a category/on a gallery page. Please review your existing uploads before uploading any new images. If you don't understand the Commons policy please post at Commons:Bybrunnen or ask an administrator who speaks Swedish. GFDL

Hej Morse, jag ser att du markerat många bilder du laddat upp som LGPL eller GFDL trots att det framgår att de inte får användas kommersiellt, etc. Detta är tyvärr inte ok. Bilder på Wikipedia måste få användas kommersiellt, och GFDL och LGPL tillåter kommersiellt användande. Dessutom är det ytterst sällan som bilder på nätet lyder under GFDL. Gör de det framgår det tydligt. Myndighetsbilder och liknande lyder aldrig under GFDL. MVH Grillo 17:50, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Dina bilder

Hej, var snäll och läs igenom Commons:Criteria for inclusion och Commons:Licensing. När du tar bilder från engelska Wikipedia måste du ha klart för dig att alla bilder på WikiCommons måste kunna användas av vem som helst hur som helst. Det är tråkigt när du sitter och hittar på licenser - bilden på Leopard-stridsvagnen är inte public domain, utan används med hänvisning till "fair use".

Till bilden "Image:Typhoon.750pix.jpg" skrev du "The copyright holder of this file allows anyone to use it for any purpose, provided that it is not changed or combined with other images..". Alla bilder här måste kunna användas av envar och bilderna måste kunna ändras och kombineras precis hur som helst.

Angående Image:CFEngel.jpg, vem är konstnären och hur länge har denne varit avliden?

Det bästa är nog om du själv tittar igenom dina bilder och märker sådana som inte kan vara kvar med {{db}} och en kort motivering. Thuresson 19:37, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Fotografiet är inskannat från tidningen Laivastolehti (Flottbladet) från 1939. Bilden fyller därmed 50-års gränsen som gäller för fotografier i Finland. Fotografiet själv är taget 1926 och fyller även kriterierna. MoRsE 19:04, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Hej, glöm inte att ge ordentliga beskrivningar och källbeskrivningar på bilderna. Jag har utökat de flesta av dem så ta gärna en titt. Licensing

When you add a image from a local wikipedia, please use the same license which is used there (example http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Caudron-Renault_C.R._714.jpg), it is not nice to get questions and complains from photographer about why and how a license has been changed after uploading a photo to a local wikipedia. --Ekeb 09:01, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

I am quite upset with the decision, as a large number of articles have been affected. The decision was taken against consensus, and on false assumptions. Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
